Carpenter Technology's high-performance materials and advanced process solutions are an integral part of critical applications used within the aerospace, transportation, medical and energy markets, among other markets. Building on its history of innovation, Carpenter Technology's wrought and powder technology capabilities support a range of next-generation products and manufacturing techniques, including novel magnetic materials and additive manufacturing. Our Tanner, AL location is an integrated mill manufacturing high quality premium and ultra-premium forged bar and billet products from melt to ship.
TITLE: CHEMIST II
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE CHEMIST II
  • Operate and maintain equipment and participate in the completion of group activities. Group activities include responding to standard requests for chemical analysis whether from the Manufacturing, Technical Services, R&D or from our customers.
  • Implement approved plans which outline action to support the achievement of defined department goals.
  • Participate in projects and services, within own function, necessary to support the improvement of existing processes.
  • Assist in coordinating project results at various stages and implement approved changes in direction as instructed.
  • Develop and communicate project results through standard technical reports and memoranda. Maintain complete and accurate records, data books and other required documentation.
  • Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED FOR THE CHEMIST II
  • Four-year college degree in Chemistry or related science field
  • 2 - 4 years of analytical, environmental or process chemistry experience.
  • Working knowledge of chemical analysis, standards, methods and practices.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of various software applications including spreadsheet, work processing, graphics and analytical programs.
  • Ability to operate a computer workstation and the related hardware and software.
  • Ability to operate analytical instruments and equipment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision, and to work in a production-oriented environment.
