Carousel Operator

The Carousel Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the carousel while providing a positive experience for guests. This position follows all ride safety procedures, assists guests with boarding and exiting, processes admissions and payments, maintains the cleanliness and appearance of the attraction, and performs cash-handling responsibilities in accordance with company procedures.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operate the carousel in accordance with manufacturer guidelines, company procedures, and established safety requirements
  • Conduct required opening, operational, and closing inspections
  • Maintain a safe ride perimeter and ensure access gates are secured during operation
  • Verify guests meet applicable height, age, and safety requirements before boarding
  • Assist guests with safely boarding and exiting the carousel
  • Ensure guests follow ride rules and properly use required safety restraints
  • Continuously monitor the attraction and guests while the carousel is operating
  • Stop operation when necessary to address unsafe conditions or guest behavior
  • Immediately report unusual sounds, smells, mechanical concerns, damage, or other safety issues to management
  • Assist guests with disabilities and follow established accessibility and safety procedures
  • Greet guests, answer questions, provide directions, and address concerns professionally
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the carousel, queue, ticketing area, and surrounding space
  • Process cash, credit card, and electronic transactions accurately
  • Maintain accountability for cash, tickets, receipts, and transaction records during the shift
  • Complete required cash counts, reconciliations, and documentation
  • Secure and deposit cash proceeds in the designated mall lockbox, safe, or approved deposit location according to established security procedures
  • Immediately report shortages, overages, transaction discrepancies, or security concerns to management
  • Assist with special events, promotions, and other operational activities as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Customer service, retail, amusement, hospitality, or cash-handling experience preferred
  • Basic computer and point-of-sale skills
  • Basic math skills and ability to accurately handle cash and transactions
  • Dependable and punctual with consistent attendance
  • Strong attention to safety and detail
  • Ability to follow operating procedures and safety requirements consistently
  • Comfortable interacting with children, families, and guests of all ages
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to remain attentive and focused while performing repetitive operating procedures
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm in a busy guest environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Employees may be required to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
  • Frequently enter, exit, and move around the carousel and boarding area
  • Bend, stoop, squat, reach, and perform repetitive movements while assisting guests and inspecting the attraction
  • Assist guests with boarding and exiting as appropriate
  • Lift, carry, move, and position up to 50 pounds
  • Navigate stairs and varying walking surfaces
  • Remain alert and visually monitor the carousel and surrounding guest areas throughout operation
  • Work in an environment with children, crowds, noise, moving equipment, and periods of high guest activity
