What you’ll do:
Guest Services team members work to ensure a memorable experience for all Zoo amp; Aquarium visitors by providing superior customer service and making all guests feel welcome. Team members respond to guest inquiries, promote Zoo amp; Aquarium events, and assist other departments to help provide a seamless guest experience. Lastly, team members also assist with maintaining the general cleanliness of the Zoo amp; Aquarium, helping to provide a safe and welcoming environment.
Guest Service Team Members work in three main areas:
Admissions
Admissions team members are responsible for initiating and completing admissions and membership sales transactions for Zoo amp; Aquarium visitors, greeting guests, and answering all inquiries regarding Zoo amp; Aquarium information. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Efficiently scanning and processing tickets and membership cards for entry, while enforcing Zoo amp; Aquarium policies in a friendly manner.
  • Presenting appropriate ticket/membership options to guests and efficiently processing the sale of tickets/memberships through the POS system.
  • Assisting with the facilitation of visiting groups to ensure quick and efficient access through the Zoo amp; Aquarium entrance.
  • Adhering to the organization’s cash handling and credit card procedures.
Retail
Retail team members are responsible for initiating and completing merchandise/rental transactions with Zoo amp; Aquarium visitors, maintaining store cleanliness, stocking supplies, ensuring safe work conditions, and answering all inquiries for Zoo amp; Aquarium information. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Initiating and completing all merchandise/rental transactions in retail locations while suggestively selling and being knowledgeable about products.
  • Assisting managers with receiving and tagging of merchandise.
  • Stocking supplies and maintaining cleanliness of retail locations.
  • Adhering to the organization’s cash handling and credit card procedures
Rides
Rides team members are responsible for the daily operation of rides, including the African Sky Safari, Endangered Species Carousel, African Tram, Kenyan Cruise, Flying Flamingo, and Kansas City Zoo Railroad. They are also required to follow proper safety and operational procedures. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensuring the proper use of safety practices and procedures while operating the attraction
  • Following opening/closing procedures, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, and accurately completing daily paperwork
  • Loading and unloading of ride, checking ride restraints, providing safety instructions, operating control panels, dispatching vehicles and ensuring the safe operation of the attractions
  • Maintaining concentration, alertness, and attentiveness for extended periods of time.
*This position may at times be requested to perform other duties or special projects as assigned, which are in the best interest of the Kansas City Zoo amp; Aquarium. Additionally, specific duties may vary slightly between each team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Education amp; Formal Training:
    1. Must be 15 years of age or older.
  2. Experience:
    1. Experience in a customer service role welcomed.
    2. Ability to interact with all types of people professionally and effectively.
  3. Other Minimum Requirements:
    1. This is an active and dynamic role that will require employees to be in a stationary position for extended periods of time, move around to complete job duties, and move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Assistance depending upon task or role.
    2. This role will require employees to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evening hours, in all weather extremes.
    3. Valid driver’s license required for some positions.
    4. Must pass background and drug screening.
