POSITION OVERVIEW
BNS is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our growing engineering team. The preferred candidate will be based in South Carolina or surrounding states and must have the ability to travel as needed to our facility in Sumter, SC.
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, engineering, and validation of electrical equipment including, but not limited to, Low/Medium Voltage Switchgear, Motor Controllers, Relay Panels, and related systems. This role supports the Engineering department by contributing to high-quality solutions that meet customer and project requirements.
This position is ideal for an engineer who has a solid technical foundation and is looking to continue developing their expertise in power systems, controls, and industrial electrical design.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess experience or working knowledge in the following areas:
  • Experience with low and medium voltage switchgear and associated electrical systems
  • Familiarity with electrical control systems and hardware including protection relays, governors, and synchronizing equipment
  • Experience with PLC hardware and programming concepts such as ladder logic, function block, or structured text
  • Understanding of communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, or CANbus
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
  • Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, MIL, ABS, IEC, or similar industry standards is a plus
  • Strong organizational and technical communication skills
  • Ability to support multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products; AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks experience preferred
  • PE designation is a plus, but not required
  • 3-6 years of relevant engineering or product design experience preferred
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties reflect the employee's primary responsibilities and expectations in this role:
  • Support the design, engineering, and documentation of electrical equipment and systems provided by BNS Power
  • Assist with engineering support for production activities, including design updates, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to support project execution and technical requirements
  • Support proposal and project teams with technical information and documentation
  • Assist Assembly, Wiring, and QA teams with troubleshooting and technical questions during equipment build and test phases
  • Participate in testing, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Travel to customer or project sites as needed to support business operations
