Job description

Job Title: Research Associate - Cardiovascular Biology
Division: Surgery
Work Arrangement: Onsite only
Location: Houston, TX
Salary Range: $70,000 - $73,000
FLSA Status: Exempt
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Summary
Step into a pivotal role as a Research Associate and help drive groundbreaking discoveries! You will be an integral part of the Laboratory for Translational Therapeutics, passionately supporting our mission to develop innovative strategies for treating human disease. In this dynamic position, you will be at the forefront of exciting science, focusing on controlling immunomodulation to reduce heart and lung fibrosis and harnessing novel CRISPR systems to conquer bioenergetic deficiencies. You will take ownership of your research, directly shaping our success through the expert planning, execution, and occasional supervision of vital projects centered on mammalian cell culture and molecular cloning workflows. Candidates with strong surgical skills are encouraged to apply.
Job Duties
  • Plans, directs and conducts research experiments.
  • Evaluates and analyzes data.
  • Develops research techniques and performs applications required for specific research projects.
  • May conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.
  • May supervise, schedule and coordinate the activities of less experienced research staff.
  • Performs routine Tissue Culture duties including media preparation, cell line thawing, expansion, and cryopreservation.
  • Executes standard cloning sub-routines including PCR amplification, restriction enzyme digestion, ligation, and bacterial transformation.
  • Oversees the maintenance of specialized lab equipment and ensures a safe, compliant laboratory environment.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field. Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in a related field
  • Strong surgical skills highly desired
