Job description

Major Food Group is hiring Lead Sommeliers to join our team at CARBONE VINO!

Located in the heart of Coconut Grove, CARBONE VINO presents all of the legendary restaurant brand’s signature dishes, a collection of exceptional new additions to the repertoire, and a dynamic beverage program that gives guests the opportunity to enjoy fine and rare wines by the glass. Adding to the concept’s appeal is a world-class bar that serves the complete menu and welcomes walk-ins—because CARBONE VINO was designed to be the kind of restaurant that diners can visit time and time again.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee purchasing of all wine, beer, spirits, non alcoholic offerings under supervision of the Regional Beverage Manager.
  • Purchase, receive, store and catalog all existing and new beverage products at the restaurant as specified to company standards.
  • Ensure that all beverage offerings are listed correctly on all menus and in the POS system.

  • Maintaining a current, up to date beverage management system.
  • Be the lead Sommelier on the floor. Guide guests with wine selections, consider their taste and budget when guiding them through the menu.
  • Ensure all wines and spirits are presented and served correctly and all pouring techniques are adhered to as specified by company standards
  • Spearheading education for all front of house of staff for all beverage offerings that the restaurant offers.
  • Anticipate guest needs. Provide information to guests regarding our venues, menus and pricing.
  • Practice highest regards for safety within all areas and with all materials
  • Follow and adhere to all standards set for by the Department of Health (DOH) and appropriate Federal/State Liquor Control Boards
  • Perform all other duties as instructed by management

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous experience in a beverage management role.
  • Previous experience working with distributors in a purchasing role.
  • 2-4 years of experience as a Sommelier in an upscale, high volume restaurant is preferred but not required.
  • WSET certifications preferred or certifications from another accredited wine institution preferred but not required.
  • Extensive knowledge of wine and wine service techniques especially Champagne, Burgundy, Bordeaux and Napa Valley.
  • Extensive knowledge of vintages in major regions of the world.
  • Experience opening and understanding older, vinous wines.
  • Extensive knowledge of cocktails and spirits.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends & holidays
  • Positive attitude
  • A “guest-first” mindset
  • Must be able to stand/walk for 8 hours; bend, push, pull; lift 30 lbs.
