They play a crucial role in ensuring that vehicles arrive safely and on time, supporting dealership operations and customer service. Car Dealer Drivers must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and often need a good understanding of different vehicle types. Attention to detail, punctuality, and strong communication skills are also important for this role.

What does a car dealer driver do?

Car Dealer Drivers are primarily responsible for transporting vehicles between dealership locations, auction sites, service centers, and customers. Their daily tasks often include inspecting vehicles for damage before and after transport, maintaining accurate logs, and ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed. This role is vital to dealership efficiency, as timely vehicle movement supports sales, service scheduling, and inventory management. Drivers also frequently interact with sales and service teams, requiring good communication skills and attention to detail to ensure smooth operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a car dealer driver?

Common Search/ComparisonCar Dealer Driver vs Car Delivery Driver

While both roles involve driving vehicles, a Car Dealer Driver primarily transports cars within dealership premises or nearby areas, often for test drives or deliveries to customers. A Car Delivery Driver typically handles longer-distance deliveries, transporting vehicles from warehouses to customers or dealerships. Both roles require valid driver’s licenses and good driving records, but Car Delivery Drivers may need additional certifications for specific vehicle types. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right position in the automotive and logistics industries.

Do car dealer drivers hire drivers?

Car dealer drivers typically do not hire other drivers; they are usually employed by the dealership to transport vehicles. Hiring of additional drivers may occur if the dealership has a fleet or logistics team, but individual driver roles are generally not responsible for hiring. Job seekers should look for dealership employment opportunities or fleet management positions for such roles.

Is it hard to get hired at a car dealership?

Getting hired as a car dealer driver typically requires a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and good customer service skills. Employers may also conduct background checks and prefer candidates with some experience in driving or sales. The hiring process can vary but generally involves an interview and a driving test.

Flatirons Imports is family-owned and operated, and we've been proud to call Boulder home since 1954. Our community has voted us "Best Car Dealer" 10 of the last 12 years in the Boulder Daily Camera, and we hold an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau — but what we're most proud of is our team. We genuinely care about our customers and about each other, and we're looking for someone who wants to grow with us.

If you're reliable, hardworking, and looking for a job that can turn into a real career, we'd love to meet you!

The Details

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (no nights, no weekends!)
  • Starting pay: $19.00/hour
  • Real opportunities for advancement — many of our team members have grown into new roles

What We Offer

  • 401(k) plan
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid vacation, plus PTO/sick days
  • A supportive team and a family-first culture
  • A company that's active and invested in the Boulder community

A Day in This Role

  • Deliver parts to businesses around the area, making sure every delivery is accurate and on time
  • Team up with our shipping/receiving crew — helping distribute packages, scan and stock parts, and keep everything running smoothly
  • Take pride in a clean, organized workspace (sweeping, wiping down bins, taking out trash, etc.)
  • Jump in wherever else you're needed — no two days are exactly the same!

What You'll Need

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and stay active throughout your shift (standing, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, etc.)
  • A valid driver's license and a driving record that meets our insurance requirements
  • Experience driving a large van is a plus, but not required

Good to Know

  • Each shift includes a 1-hour unpaid lunch break; if you ever need a schedule adjustment, just check with your manager in advance
