Capture Director information

How does a capture director typically collaborate with business development and proposal teams during the pursuit of new contracts?

A Capture Director works closely with both business development and proposal teams to shape the overall strategy for winning new contracts. This role involves leading opportunity assessments, developing win themes, and coordinating resources to address client needs effectively. The Capture Director ensures that all stakeholders are aligned on the pursuit plan, facilitates communication between technical experts and proposal writers, and often conducts competitive analysis to refine the approach. Effective collaboration is essential, as the Capture Director acts as the central point of contact to drive the pursuit from early qualification through proposal submission.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a capture director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Capture Director, you need strong expertise in business development, proposal management, and strategic planning, often supported by experience in government contracting or sales. Familiarity with CRM tools, proposal software like Shipley or Salesforce, and knowledge of federal acquisition regulations are typically required. Outstanding leadership, negotiation, and communication skills help build client relationships and guide cross-functional teams. These abilities are crucial for securing new business opportunities and ensuring the success of complex, high-value capture pursuits.
