Job description

The responsibility of a Team Captain is to assist in meeting daily targeted goals as outlined by the Team Leader.ย  Coordinate the daily operations through assigning, monitoring and reviewing accuracy of team membersโ€™ work and providing technical guidance.ย  Team Captains are responsible for the successful training and development of all team members in accordance with standard work practices and training documents.ย  Team Captains will lead and direct a team of four or more team members. The Team Captain will spend most of the day supporting the team members through problem solving.ย  When business needs dictate, the Team Captain will work on the line. ย ย 


  • Promote a safe work environment through proactive and reactive safety actions.
  • Communicate performance and daily targets for Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost to the team members through MDI meetings.
  • Train, coach, and develop team members, including giving timely feedback, in an effective and professional way.
  • Arrange staffing in cells to meet daily work.
  • Ensure team members have the correct tools to complete their daily tasks and ensure they are in good working condition.
  • Initiate daily short and long-term work improvements.
  • Monitor processes and materials to detect or assess issues or possible problems. Communicate with supporting departments when potential problems arise. ย 
  • Maintain professional communication and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Support and promote a strong organizational and team culture, partnering with Team Leader to align individual and group actions with company values and norms.
  • Support Team Leader by monitoring employee performance to ensure productivity and efficiency, notifying Team Leader of company policy violations.
  • Conduct daily 5S audits and promote 5S initiatives.
  • Count and record parts from inventory with accuracy using basic math skills.
  • Perform assembly tasks to meet daily production standards of quality and quantity when business dictates.
  • Navigate systemic ERP system (Epicor) and perform basic quality / inventory transactions (e.g.- write a non-conformance).
  • Use computer software to locate and print assembly drawings.
  • Read tape measure and interpret work instructions.
  • Possess experience with Kanban Inventory process.
  • Ability to operate small hand and power tools.

Education and Experience:ย 

  • High School diploma (GED) with 2 yearsโ€™ work experience in a related field and demonstrated ability to solve problems.ย 
  • Qualified applicants must possess experience with advanced safety practices and improved operating environment, manual assembly operations, maintaining inventory accuracy, in addition to production scheduling, training team members, and team building.ย 
  • Lean Manufacturing principles a plus.ย 

Skills and Abilities:ย 

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.ย 
  • Perform written documentation and correspondence.ย 
  • Professionally communicate one-on-one and in groups.ย 
  • Ability to perform tasks using computer software and Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Environment is a modern production facility with heat and air conditioning
  • The job requires the use of hand/powered tools and operation of a pallet jack
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally required to stand; bend, kneel, twist, reach overhead routinely to retrieve inventory or pack shipments
  • Required to walk occasionally
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds routinely
  • Ability to lift 31 pounds to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds with assistance occasionally
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to manipulate hand and power tools, wires, fixtures, parts and sub-assembliesย ย 
  • Required to climb a ladder to retrieve or store parts occasionally
  • Required to climb a ladder regularly when assigned to shipping duties
  • Required to safely ride product up to 14 feet in the air while performing product testing
