Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Hydromet Operations Supervisor directs and supervises activities including achieving targets, planning and actual work completion, staffing and cost control related to Hydromet Operations (including leach, solvent extraction, electrowinning, and cathode harvesting). In addition, this role provides leadership and mentors team members to operate in a manner consistent with company values.

  • Demonstrate commitment to safety and Capstone’s Values in Action.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all employees and contractors follow Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA safety standards, operating procedures, and training/certification requirements. Maintain compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Direct, coach, and mentor Hydromet Operations staff, supporting skill development and performance. Establish clear expectations and provide consistent shift handoff to maintain operational continuity.
  • Operational Execution: Oversee leach, solvent extraction, electrowinning, and cathode harvesting activities to achieve HSEC, cost, quality, and production KPIs. Allocate resources, define work plans, and address issues to ensure production targets are met.
  • Planning & Resource Management: Ensure required manpower, safety supplies, equipment, and materials are in place to execute planned activities within budget. Coordinate maintenance activities and monitor equipment performance to sustain reliable operations.
  • Reporting & Performance Monitoring: Capture and analyze operational data to generate daily, weekly, and monthly production reports. Use data to drive performance improvements and optimize operational programs, processes, and systems.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement initiatives to enhance business systems, work practices, and equipment utilization, improving efficiency, reliability, and overall department performance.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • A minimum of three years of experience in an operations or supervisory role in an SX-EW facility
  • Strong working knowledge of solvent extraction/electrowinning/leaching methods and procedures
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License (must obtain valid Arizona Driver’s License)
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English

Preferred

  • SAP experience
  • Supervisory experience

All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty’. Additional training and/or testing may be required.
