SUMMARY
The Planning Manager is responsible for leading production planning, material planning, and replenishment activities to ensure customer demand is translated into executable plans. This role drives alignment across procurement, manufacturing, and supply chain functions to meet delivery commitments, manage constraints, improve schedule performance, and support operational efficiency. The Planning Manager plays a key leadership role in aligning customer demand, production capacity, material availability, and operational priorities to support reliable execution in a build-to-order manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Planning & Scheduling
    • Develop, maintain, and communicate production plans and schedules based on customer demand, capacity, and business priorities.
    • Translate customer orders, forecasts, and planning signals into executable production and replenishment plans.
    • Adjust schedules in response to disruptions, changing priorities, and material or capacity constraints.
    • Ensure alignment between planning activity and ERP/MRP system inputs and outputs.
  • Capacity, Materials & Constraint Management
    • Analyze production capacity, labor availability, material readiness, and other operational constraints to support achievable plans.
    • Partner with procurement and replenishment teams to maintain material availability and proactively address shortages or supply risk.
    • Identify bottlenecks, evaluate tradeoffs, and recommend actions to improve throughput, service, and execution reliability.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership
    • Collaborate with procurement, manufacturing, customer service, and other stakeholders to align priorities and execution plans.
    • Communicate planning assumptions, schedule changes, risks, and recovery actions to affected teams.
    • Support S&OP and related planning processes by providing data, analysis, and operational insight.
  • Execution & Order Management
    • Release, manage, and monitor work orders to support production flow and customer delivery requirements.
    • Track order progress, identify execution risks, and escalate issues with recommended corrective actions.
    • Provide clear status reporting and planning updates to support timely decision-making.
  • Performance, Data & Continuous Improvement
    • Analyze schedule performance metrics.
    • Drive process improvements.
    • Maintain master data integrity.
    • Support ERP/MRP enhancements.
    • Monitor key planning metrics, including schedule adherence, on-time delivery, backlog, and material availability.
    • Drive process improvements that strengthen planning effectiveness, data accuracy, and cross-functional execution.
    • Maintain planning master data and support system enhancements that improve visibility and decision-making.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in production planning, supply planning, materials planning, or a related manufacturing planning role.
  • Experience in a build-to-order or complex manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems required.
  • Prior team leadership experience preferred.
  • APICS/ASCM CPIM or CSCP certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of production planning, material planning, replenishment, and capacity management.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and drive execution through change.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and continuous improvement mindset.
