Job description

Assistant Store Manager 

The Assistant Store Manager (ASM) partners with the Store Manager to drive sales performance, operational excellence, and team engagement while delivering an elevated luxury consumer experience. This role leads by example on the sales floor, supports day-to-day store operations, and develops team capability through coaching and performance accountability.

The ASM serves as Leader on Duty (LOD) when assigned and is responsible for overseeing daily store operations, employee performance, customer experience, and operational execution in alignment with Lucchese standards and company policies.

Scope of job: 

The Assistant Store Manager supports total store performance and is responsible for driving results across people, operations, and customer experience. This role has supervisory responsibility for supporting employee performance, operational execution, customer experience, and daily store leadership activities. The ASM provides meaningful partnership in interviewing, hiring, coaching, scheduling, and performance management processes.

The ASM collaborates with cross-functional partners including HR, Loss Prevention, Finance, Marketing, Facilities, and IT. Matters outside delegated authority are escalated to the Store Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Collaborates

  • Partners with the Store Manager to execute business strategies aligned with store goals
  • Supports cross-functional initiatives and company programs
  • Fosters a collaborative and inclusive team environment
  • Shares best practices and feedback to improve store performance
  • Participates in interviewing and selection processes to support staffing and talent needs

2. Drives Engagement

  • Creates a motivating and high-performance team culture
  • Provides in-the-moment coaching and recognition
  • Encourages open communication and professional development
  • Supports onboarding and ongoing training initiatives
  • Supports accountability across the store team through coaching, follow-up, and reinforcement of performance expectations
  • Assists with onboarding, training, and development of new and existing team members
  • Addresses employee concerns professionally and escalates matters appropriately when needed

3. Customer Focus

  • Leads by example in delivering a personalized, luxury-level consumer experience
  • Resolves customer concerns professionally and effectively while supporting de-escalation and service recovery efforts
  • Ensures team members consistently model brand standards and service excellence
  • Supports clienteling and community engagement initiatives

4. Drives Results

  • Partners with the Store Manager to drive achievement of sales and KPI targets (conversion, UPT, AUR) through active floor leadership, coaching, and accountability
  • Monitors daily business metrics and adjusts floor leadership accordingly
  • Supports labor planning and productivity management
  • Identifies performance gaps and implements corrective action
  • Maintains awareness of daily, weekly, and monthly business performance metrics and supports action planning to improve results
  • Supports execution of labor productivity and payroll management initiatives aligned with business needs

5. Communicates Effectively

  • Clearly communicates expectations, goals, and performance feedback
  • Conducts team meetings and one-on-one coaching sessions
  • Provides timely updates to the Store Manager
  • Escalates operational or employee matters appropriately
  • Delivers clear, constructive coaching and feedback to support employee performance and development


Operational & Specialty Leadership (Volume-Based Flexibility)

Rather than siloed “low/mid/high volume” sections, this is modernized to allow flexibility across locations:

  • Oversees back-of-house productivity, including receiving, tagging, organization, and inventory accuracy
  • Maintains compliance with loss prevention and accounting procedures; conducts regular audits
  • Ensures visual merchandising standards align with brand and seasonal directives
  • Supports event planning and community initiatives to drive customer acquisition and retention
  • Addresses facility, maintenance, and supply needs within budget guidelines
  • Maintains advanced knowledge of operational procedures, inventory processes, POS systems, and store compliance standards
  • Supports execution and troubleshooting of operational systems and workflows to ensure business continuity
  • Serves as a knowledgeable operational resource for team members during Leader on Duty coverage

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated leadership capability in a luxury or premium retail environment

  • Proficiency in POS systems (NetSuite preferred)

  • Ability to learn workforce management systems (e.g., ADP Workforce Now)
  • Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, high-service environment
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, inventory processes, and operational controls
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, de-escalate, and address performance or customer concerns professionally
  • Ability to prioritize and lead operational execution while serving as Leader on Duty
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving capability


Education, Experience, and/or Certifications:

  • Minimum of 2–4 years of progressive retail leadership experience required
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, or related field preferred
  • Luxury, premium, or specialty retail experience preferred


Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to stand and move throughout the store for extended periods
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, and climb ladders as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Occasional travel may be required (up to 10%)

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $33 – $41 per Hour
  • Plus an incentive compensation plan tied to individual sales performance.


This range represents the good-faith estimate of base pay for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. Salary is based on a wide range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and geographical location.
