POSITION OVERVIEW:


As the Manager, Development Engineering, you will be a key member of the leadership team that emphasizes a combination of technical expertise, project management, team leadership, and communication skills. This role is multifaceted and requires a strong balance of technical knowledge, management abilities, and the capability to improve engineering processes and innovation. You will need a mix of strong technical skills and leadership capabilities, and the ability to guide a team of engineers while fostering an environment of continuous improvement and innovation. You will be partnering with others to solve complex engineering problems, answering complicated questions about every facet of continuous casting.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • People Management: The primary responsibility is to manage and support a team of engineers, ensuring that they have the resources, training, and support to succeed.
  • Project Leadership: Oversee and execute engineering programs, ensuring proper staffing and the efficient execution of projects.
  • Communication: Foster clear communication both within the team and with upper management.
  • Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement: Identify roadblocks and challenges, implementing solutions to improve productivity and the quality of engineering processes.
  • Strategic Contributions: Contribute to the development and improvement of new product offerings and ensure that new technologies (such as continuous casting) are implemented effectively.
Requirements:

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, particularly those related to Hazelett products and continuous casting.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Strong skills in supervising and mentoring a team, managing personnel issues, and ensuring team performance.
  • Communication Skills: Effective listening, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills are essential, especially when dealing with technical teams and upper management.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, from planning to execution, ensuring deadlines and resource requirements are met.
  • Independent and Collaborative Working: Capability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Educational Requirements: A minimum of a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with 10+ years of experience preferred.
  • Management Experience: Proven history of supervising or managing teams within a project or functional area.
  • Additional Training: Formal management training, particularly in people management and conflict resolution, is considered a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Duties will be carried out in an office environment, manufacturing production floor, and at customer and supplier sites as required, which might include occasional exposure to fumes, noise, and gases from equipment or machinery. The employee must utilize personal safety equipment when working on the production floor. Travel to attend meetings and visit customers is required.

The base pay range for this full-time position is $96,000 โ€“ $130,000. Your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. In addition, our ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
