Sample Coordinator - Richmond, Virginia

Monday to Friday | Evening Shift

Job Description

The Sample Coordinator performs a variety of sample and standard handling activities that support daily laboratory operations. This role follows established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), responds to requests from laboratory staff with minimal supervision, and helps maintain proper sample handling practices to ensure compliance with laboratory and regulatory requirements. It offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in compliance and regulatory processes within the life sciences industry.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, label, inventory, transport, and track samples and standards throughout the laboratory process.
  • Support sample check-in and check-out activities, ensuring accurate documentation and chain-of-custody records.
  • Manage sample and standard storage, including organizing, monitoring, and maintaining appropriate conditions.
  • Assist with the return, transfer, and disposal of laboratory materials in accordance with SOPs and regulatory guidelines.
  • Communicate clear and timely sample and standard status updates to laboratory personnel.
  • Provide guidance to laboratory staff regarding sample handling procedures, documentation, and requirements.
  • Complete deviation reports and participate in investigations related to sample handling or storage issues.
  • Assist with the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address identified deviations or process improvements.
  • Review laboratory requests to verify that they comply with applicable SOPs and quality requirements.
  • Participate in training related to SOPs, regulatory guidelines, and sample storage and handling requirements.
  • Respond to environmental monitoring alarms and participate in on-call support rotations as needed.
  • Perform all work accurately, safely, and within established timelines while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Support general sample management activities, including specimen processing, sample preparation, and data entry as required.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a laboratory, sample management, inventory control, or regulated environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with sample management activities such as sample receiving, sample preparation, and specimen processing.
  • Ability to follow and work with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in logging, labeling, tracking, and documenting samples and standards.
  • Basic data entry skills and comfort working with sample management systems and documentation tools.
  • Understanding of laboratory operations and regulated environments, including compliance and safety practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with laboratory personnel regarding sample status, handling procedures, and requirements.
  • Commitment to working safely and maintaining compliance with established quality and regulatory standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree, technical certificate, vocational training, or related education is preferred.
  • Coursework in chemistry or biology is beneficial.
  • Experience in a life sciences or regulated laboratory environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with CAPA processes, deviation reports, and quality investigations is an advantage.

Pay and Benefits
