Job description

Position Title: Safety Clerk

Reports to: Safety Manager

Department: Safety & Security

Classification: Seasonal, Hourly (Non-Exempt)

Pay: $21.75 – $22.50 per hour

In this role, you will assist with daily safety tasks, maintain records, support basic training activities, and provide first aid assistance as needed. This position plays an important role in supporting compliance with company policies and applicable safety regulations.

During our Harvest season, you will be expected to work at least 6 days a week to support our Cannery. Our Season runs from Mid-July through end of September but could extend.

This position will be primarily responsible for:

  • Assisting with daily safety walkthroughs and accurately document observations.
  • Supporting incident reporting by gathering required information and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assisting in preparing materials for safety training sessions and supporting session setup.
  • Providing basic first aid support and assisting with referring employees to medical providers when necessary.
  • Maintaining safety-related supplies and ensuring first aid kits remain properly stocked.
  • Assisting with data entry and maintaining logs related to safety activities and shift reports.
  • Assisting with workers’ compensation documentation and returntowork tracking under supervision.
  • Supporting reasonable suspicion drug testing procedures as directed by the Safety Manager.
  • Assisting in maintaining a clean and organized safety office and supply area.
  • Assisting with emergency response efforts and helping communicate procedures during incidents.
  • Participating in CPR, First Aid, and AED training and maintaining required certifications.
  • Working flexible shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid California Driver’s License.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively with others.
  • Strong attention to detail with effective organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and demonstrate initiative.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED, or BLS certification.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Familiarity with Cal/OSHA regulations and Workers’ Compensation.

Physical Requirements:

Moderate lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires the following percentages of time committed to physical activity: 25% or more sitting, 75% or less walking, and 75% or more standing. The job is performed under moderate temperature variations and in a cannery environment. Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees. The ability to lift up to 45 lbs. is required. Work in an environment where the noise level varies. Continuously climb and descend stairs (applies to sites with stairs).
