Job Summary
Summary: As a Culinary Supervisor with Levy at UW-Madison, you will directly lead food-service associates to ensure the Student Athlete Dining program runs smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws. This position supports our early morning dining operations and requires consistent availability for the 4:00 AM - 12:30 PM shift. You will play a vital role in maintaining high food quality, safety standards, and an exceptional dining experience while leading a talented team of culinary professionals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead and Supervise Staff: Train, assign, and direct the work of food-service associates, providing feedback and performance appraisals. Address employee concerns and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Inventory & Purchasing Management: Advise management on purchasing needs, ensuring inventory is well-stocked while minimizing waste and preventing product shortages.
  • Quality Control: Follow approved recipes and production standards to guarantee consistent quality, optimal serving temperatures, and proper portion control in every dish.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure kitchen equipment is operated safely and cleaned thoroughly after each use in accordance with department guidelines.
  • Food Storage & Rotation: Follow proper food storage, labeling, and dating procedures. Maintain established food rotations to reduce waste and minimize spoilage.
  • Compliance: Strictly adhere to company, departmental, and local health regulations and sanitation standards.
  • Customer Interaction: Remain present during meal periods to receive direct feedback from guests, assist in meal service, and address comments or concerns promptly.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as needed to support the overall success of kitchen operations and ensure a smooth workflow.
Qualifications:
  • Leadership Experience: Previous leadership experience is required, with the ability to supervise and inspire a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Culinary Expertise: Prior experience in a culinary role is required, with a strong understanding of kitchen operations and food preparation standards.
  • Certifications: Must have or be willing to obtain ServSafe Food Manager Certification.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs. of kitchen supplies or ingredients.
  • High-Volume Experience: Comfortable working in a high-volume kitchen environment while maintaining efficiency during peak service periods.
  • Availability: This is a Morning Shift Only position. Candidates must be available to work a consistent schedule of 4:00 AM - 12:30 PM, including weekends as business needs require. This position does not offer afternoon, evening, or rotating shifts.
  • Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively in English via text, email, Microsoft Office applications, and in-person interactions with clients, management, and team members.
