Cam Assistant information

What is a CAM Assistant?

A CAM Assistant, or Community Association Manager Assistant, provides administrative and operational support to community association managers overseeing residential or commercial properties. Their responsibilities often include coordinating meetings, maintaining records, assisting with communications between property owners and management, and helping to enforce association rules. CAM Assistants play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of homeowners’ or condominium associations. They may also handle tasks such as processing payments, preparing reports, and responding to resident inquiries.

What is the difference between Cam Assistant vs Camera Operator?

AspectCam AssistantCamera Operator
CredentialsBasic camera operation knowledge, sometimes certificationsAdvanced camera skills, often certifications or training
Work EnvironmentAssist on set, support camera teamOperate cameras during filming or broadcasting
Industry UsageCommon in film, TV, and live productionsPrimary role in capturing footage in various productions

Cam Assistants typically support camera teams by handling equipment and setup, requiring basic technical skills. Camera Operators are responsible for capturing footage directly, often needing advanced skills and experience. While both roles work closely in production environments, the Cam Assistant focuses on support tasks, whereas the Camera Operator manages the actual filming process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CAM Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) Assistant, you need a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, technical drawing interpretation, and basic computer skills, often supported by a diploma or certificate in manufacturing or engineering technology. Familiarity with CAM software such as Mastercam or SolidCAM, and knowledge of CNC machinery are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and strong organizational skills help CAM Assistants excel in supporting workflow and minimizing errors. These skills ensure efficient production operations, accurate part fabrication, and effective collaboration with engineering and production teams.

What does a typical workday look like for a CAM Assistant, and how do they interact with property management teams?

As a CAM (Community Association Management) Assistant, your daily responsibilities often include supporting property managers by coordinating maintenance requests, communicating with residents, organizing documentation, and assisting with meeting preparation. You’ll frequently collaborate with property management teams to ensure smooth operations within homeowners or condominium associations. This role requires strong organizational skills and effective communication, as you’ll be the bridge between residents, vendors, and management. Over time, CAM Assistants can advance to higher-level management positions as they gain experience and industry certifications.

Job description

Full-Time | On-Site

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced CNC Programmer to join our machining team. In this role, you'll develop efficient, accurate toolpaths and programs for both milling and turning operations, working closely with machinists to bring precision parts from print to production. If you take pride in clean code, tight tolerances, and finding smarter ways to cut metal, we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as one of two primary programmers that set the pace for the production line.
  • Create and optimize CNC programs for mills and lathes using Mastercam, Cam Assist, and Fusion 360
  • Program complex multi-sided parts on 5-axis machining centers, including simultaneous 5-axis toolpaths where appropriate
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D models to plan the most efficient machining strategy
  • Select appropriate tooling, speeds, feeds, and work holding to maximize quality, tool life, and cycle time
  • Generate setup sheets, tool lists, and operator documentation
  • Work directly with machinists to prove out new programs, troubleshoot issues at the machine, and refine processes
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality to resolve design-for-manufacturability questions and dimensional issues
  • Maintain organized program libraries, post processors, and tooling databases

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of hands-on CNC programming experience in a production or job-shop environment
  • Proficiency with Mastercam, Cam Assist, Fusion 360 — you're comfortable writing programs from scratch in both if necessary.
  • Strong experience programming for CNC mills, including 5-axis machining centers (3+2 positional and full simultaneous 5-axis)
  • Strong experience programming for CNC lathes (live tooling and multi-axis turning a plus)
  • Solid understanding of machining fundamentals: speeds and feeds, tool selection, fixturing, and work coordinate systems
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T
  • Working knowledge of G-code and M-code — you can read, edit, and troubleshoot programs at the control
  • Experience with a variety of materials (steel, stainless, aluminum, plastics; exotics a plus)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineers, machinists, and quality

Nice to Have

  • Experience with post processor editing and customization, especially for 5-axis kinematics
  • Familiarity with CMM programming or inspection processes
  • Background as a machinist before moving into programming
  • Experience with probing, tool setters, or in-process gauging
  • Experience programming mill-turn or multi-task machines

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Health and dental insurance available
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Stable, full-time schedule
  • Opportunities to grow your skills on new machines and technologies
