Nature & Purpose of Position

Position will begin in Fall 2026. Interviews will take place in Spring/Summer 2026.
The College of Arts and Media (CAM) seeks a dynamic and creative student who aspires to be an event and lifestyle photography professional. The photography intern supports the CAM Marketing and Communications Team by creating photo elements for marketing campaigns that increase the visibility and awareness of department productions, exhibitions, and performances.
The CAM Marketing and Communications Team allows student interns to work professionally and gain valuable real-world skills and training that will benefit their future careers. This intern will report to the Director of Strategic Initiatives & Operations (head of the CAM marketing team) and the CAM Communications Manager.
Duties and Expectations
  • This position is representative of the college and university and requires serious dedication to the internship.
  • Collaborate with the team to produce marketing images for CAM.
  • Attend events/performances/exhibitions/rehearsals to capture photo content - this will include nights and weekends.
  • Capture and maintain stock photos for the college and departments.
  • Focus on campus life photography around the departments for publications as well as social media postings.
  • Portrait photography for departments as needed.
  • Comfortable in front of and behind the camera.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Other Requirements for the Position
Required Qualifications
Applicants must have and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. The successful internship candidate may be eligible for a scholarship within CAM. Interested applicants must file a completed Scholarships4Kats to be considered for a scholarship. Scholarships are not guaranteed and are contingent upon available funding.
All CAM interns are expected to do the following:
  • Learn and use web applications for project management and cloud storage
  • Communicate openly, effectively, and frequently with team admins
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the team
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with students, faculty, and staff
  • Maintain the confidentiality of CAM information
  • Learn and follow all college and SHSU brand standards
  • Assist and participate in the organization and execution of CAM-sponsored events that may include nights or weekends
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom.
  • Working knowledge of photography equipment. (Office provided equipment is Sony, or you may use your own.)
  • Working knowledge of photo size requirements for digital formats such as social media platforms and print formats
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capable of handling a fast-paced marketing environment.
  • Comfortable in front of and behind the camera.
  • Creative and extroverted personality with a passion for arts and media.

Hours & Pay
  • Starting pay of $13 an hour. 
  • Flexible schedule. Typically, 20 - 28 hours per week. Hours may vary. 
  • Many projects require availability outside traditional office hours; this position will be expected to work frequent nights and weekends.
