Position Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Calypso CMM Programmer with 15+ years of hands-on experience in a precision manufacturing environment utilizing Zeiss Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and Calypso software.

This role requires a technically driven individual with a strong engineering mindset, deep GD&T expertise, and the ability to develop complex inspection programs for high-precision machined components.

The ideal candidate is naturally curious, detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about solving manufacturing and metrology challenges. They must have a great attitude, be calm under pressure, and helpful to all coworkers.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring product conformity, improving inspection efficiency, supporting manufacturing operations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

CMM Programming & Inspection

  • Develop, optimize, validate, and maintain complex Calypso programs for Zeiss CMMs

  • Program inspections for tight-tolerance machined, and precision components using 3D CAD models and engineering drawings

  • Utilize advanced Calypso features including:- PCM

    • Curve and freeform analysis
    • Multiple alignments
    • CAD-based programming
    • Reporting automation
    • Parametric programming
  • Troubleshoot and resolve CMM hardware, probing, fixture, and software-related issues

  • Perform first article inspections (FAI), in-process inspections, and final inspections

GD&T & Engineering Analysis

  • Serve as the company subject matter expert for GD&T interpretation and application in accordance with ASME Y14.5
  • Analyze complex dimensional relationships and inspection strategies
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to improve part design for manufacturability and inspectability
  • Provide technical guidance regarding datum structure, tolerance stack-ups, profile tolerances, and functional inspection methods
  • Review customer drawings, models, and specifications for inspection feasibility

Manufacturing & Process Support

  • Partner with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve dimensional nonconformances
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to dimensional issues
  • Design and recommend inspection fixtures and workholding concepts
  • Improve inspection cycle times while maintaining accuracy and repeatability
  • Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor less experienced CMM programmers, inspectors, and quality technicians
  • Establish best practices and standardization for CMM programming and inspection methodologies
  • Provide technical training on GD&T, metrology, and inspection techniques
  • Assist with calibration strategy and measurement system analysis (MSA/Gage R&R)

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience programming Zeiss CMMs using Calypso software in a precision manufacturing environment

  • Advanced expertise in GD&T interpretation and application per ASME Y14.5

  • Strong understanding of precision machining processes, including CNC milling, turning, grinding, and complex geometries

  • Proven experience inspecting tight-tolerance aerospace, medical device, defense, or high-precision industrial components

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models, and specifications

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with an engineering-oriented mindset

  • Experience with:- Zeiss Contura, Duramax, or similar Zeiss systems

    • PC-DMIS or other metrology software (preferred)
    • First Article Inspection (AS9102 preferred)
    • Statistical analysis and SPC
    • MSA and Gage R&R
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

  • Self-motivated, curious, and continuously seeking process improvements

  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (green card holder) due to ITAR regulations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Metrology, Quality, or related technical field
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing industries such as medical device, aerospace, or defense
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, and ISO 13485
  • Experience with offline programming and CAD integration
  • Familiarity with automation, robotics, or advanced inspection technologies including optical scanning systems
