Job description

ONLY APPLICANTS SELECTED FOR AN INTERVIEW WILL BE NOTIFIED

To perform a variety of routine duties involved in the planning, care, and maintenance of recreational grounds; and to perform special projects as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following.

  • Participate in a variety of grounds maintenance duties including trimming shrubs and trees, weed abatement, mowing and edging lawns, raking recreation areas, watering plants and trees, and sweeping.
  • Maintain and renovate lawn bowling turf areas; maintain infield and softball field; mark foul lines.
  • Water planters and plant flowers.
  • Pick up litter from grounds and parking lot and empty trash containers throughout assigned grounds areas.
  • Transport equipment from one recreation center to another recreation center.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair landscape equipment, which may include weed eaters, trimmers to lawn mowers.
  • Participate in pest control operations as needed.
  • Assist in preparing the Center for special projects and events.
  • Participate in setting forms, mixing, pouring, and finishing concrete.
  • Participate in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Maintains consistent record of acceptable attendance and punctuality according to policy guidelines.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE   Less than high school education; or three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of lawn maintenance equipment; pruning trees/shrubs; planting and applications of fertilizers and pesticides preferred.

LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATION SKILLS   Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.  Ability to  speak simple sentences in English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS   Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY   Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of making sound decisions and demonstrating intellectual capabilities.  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

In order to drive Association vehicles, a valid Arizona driver's license and good driving record for insurance purpose.  Arizona Pest Control Certification is preferred.
