Job description

Position Available Immediately
Title: Safety Coordinator
Reports to: Senior Safety Manager
Summary of Position: The successful candidate is the project point of contact for environmental health and safety. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for keeping our projects safe by delivering training, guidance, identification and correction of hazardous conditions and behavior to all personnel on our construction sites. The Safety Coordinator will align with Blach's safety philosophy and model Blach Construction's core values.
Typical Duties:
  • Support Project Team in development of Job Hazard Analyses and an overall Project Safety Roadmap
  • Evaluate effectiveness of safety programs through daily field walks
  • Evaluate regulatory compliance and audit oversight
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors and provide recognition for employees and projects exhibiting safe behaviors
  • Deliver effective safety trainings and new employee orientations
  • Conduct injury and incident investigations
  • Provide regular feedback to Project Team for improvement and recognition
  • Assist in the development and execution of project-specific corrective action plans to address safety issues occurring on the project
  • Collaborate with team on project-specific safety initiatives and performance measures
  • Provide administration support related to safety documentation
  • Review safety submittals and MPS (Minimum Performance Standards) with trade partners
  • Conduct and assist with all safety inspections
  • Implement and support Hammertech Construction Software
  • Proficient with maintaining online project and company recordkeeping
  • Identify highest risks on the project and ensure controls measures are in place
  • Stop any unsafe work operations and provide guidance for moving forward safely
  • Continuous improvement staying updated on industry best practices and emerging trends

Skills/Qualifications:
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, problem solving and leadership skills
  • Strong knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulatory standards
  • Effective public speaking presentation skills
  • Ability to research safety solutions and provide guidance on content
  • Detail orientated with ability to assist on multiple project tasks
  • Ability to achieve Competent Person Certification in fall protection, excavation and scaffolding, etc.
  • Journeyman trade experience a plus
  • Experience with union workforce desired
  • OSHA 30-hr Construction (Preferred)
  • CPR/FA/AED Certified (Trainer Preferred)
  • Forklift/Aerial Lift/Elevated Platform trainer a plus
  • Other safety professional certifications, such as CSHO or CHST preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Programs
  • Fluent or intermediate level Spanish is strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and clear communication skills

Position Status: Full-time, regular business hours, non-exempt
Location: Bay Area, CA, with travel throughout the Greater Bay Area and Central Coast Region
