Bakery Café Team Lead

Location: Janesville, Wisconsin 

Reports To: Manager 

Position Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are looking for a dependable, hospitality-minded Bakery Café Team Lead to support daily operations, guide employees, and help create a warm, welcoming guest experience in Janesville, Wisconsin.

Reporting to the Bakery Manager, this hands-on leader helps the café run smoothly by maintaining food quality, guest service, cleanliness, production, staffing, and cost-control standards. The Team Lead works alongside employees each day, provides steady direction, and helps keep the team focused during both routine and busy service periods

Key Responsibilities

• Lead daily café operations, including opening, shift changes, closing, service flow, team assignments, and readiness for each part of the day

• Model warm hospitality by greeting guests, supporting attentive service, and helping resolve guest questions or concerns with care

• Support production, stocking, product quality, food safety, cleanliness, and presentation standards throughout the shift

• Assist with scheduling, coverage, onboarding, coaching, training, and clear daily communication with employees

• Monitor inventory, waste, labor needs, cash-handling procedures, register counts, and other cost-control priorities

• Communicate staffing, maintenance, purchasing, service, and operational concerns to the Bakery Manager in a timely manner

This position plays an important role in helping employees feel supported, guests feel welcomed, and daily operations stay organized and consistent.

Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or shift-lead experience in a café, bakery, restaurant, coffee shop, quick-service restaurant, or similar foodservice environmen

• Strong communication, organization, coaching, and problem-solving skills, especially in a fast-paced guest-service setting

• Working knowledge of food production, guest service, sanitation, inventory, scheduling, and basic cost controls

• Comfortable working hands-on across bakery, café, front-of-house, service, and storage areas

• Ability to give clear direction while contributing to a positive, respectful, guest-focused workplace

• Food safety certification preferred or ability to obtain certification within the required timeframe

Physical and Scheduling Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 60 pounds

• Ability to work in kitchen, café, service, and storage environments

• Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts based on business needs

• Reliable transportation and dependable attendance required
