Caddie Manager information

What is a caddie manager?

Caddie Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the operations of caddie programs at golf courses or country clubs. Their duties include recruiting, training, and scheduling caddies, ensuring excellent service for golfers, and handling administrative tasks related to caddie payroll and performance. They also act as a liaison between caddies, golfers, and club management to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and resolve any issues that arise. Effective Caddie Managers help enhance the golfing experience and maintain high standards of service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a caddie manager?

To thrive as a Caddie Manager, you need strong organizational skills, in-depth knowledge of golf operations, and experience managing teams, often supported by prior work in hospitality or golf course management. Familiarity with scheduling software, POS systems, and golf course management platforms is typically required. Excellent interpersonal communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills help you effectively coordinate caddies and deliver high-quality service to golfers. These competencies ensure smooth day-to-day operations, satisfied clientele, and a well-managed caddie staff.

What are some typical challenges a caddie manager faces when coordinating caddie assignments during busy golf tournaments?

A Caddie Manager often encounters challenges such as balancing caddie availability with player requests, ensuring fair distribution of assignments, and handling last-minute changes due to weather or cancellations. Effective communication and quick problem-solving are essential, especially during peak times when multiple groups require support. Additionally, managing the expectations of both caddies and golfers while maintaining a smooth operation is a key part of the role.

Job description

The primary responsibility of the Caddie/Bag Room Manager is the recruitment, training and supervision of the caddies and outside service staff at Naperville Country Club. The Caddie/Bag Room Manager is an employee of the Club and reports directly to the Head Golf Professional.
The Caddie/Outside Service Manager will be a salaried year long position with a heavier focus between March and November. The Caddie/Outside Service Manager will coordinate his workday with the Head Golf Professional depending on the time of the year.
The compensation package includes a weekly salary of $650-$750 (depending on the proper candidate) to be paid year-round even though regular hours may not be required throughout the winter months. Health, Dental, and 401K (after 4 months), as well as paid vacation and daily meals are included benefits of the position. Golf course privileges may also be utilized depending on course availability. PGA Dues will be paid for any PGA member or apprentice. The Caddie/Bag Room Manager will also be a part of the Employee Christmas bonus pool.
$40,000 per year
Responsibilities/Expectations of the Caddie/Outside Service Manager:
1. Understand the game of golf and have knowledge of the rules and etiquette of the game.
2. Maintain an adequate pool of well-trained caddies and bag room employees.
3. Train new caddies as to the rules of golf and duties to be performed while on the golf course. An effective training program including printed and video materials as well as on-course must be utilized.
4. Make sure that caddies are available to all golfers, giving equal opportunity to all caddies.
5. We use a program called Club Up for assigning caddies so that our caddies can better maintain their own schedules. It is the Caddie/Bag Room Manager's responsibility to learn this software and utilize it to properly load and assign caddies.
6. Work with the golf professional to determine the number of caddies needed for special high-demand events (i.e. club tournaments and Monday outings).
7. Evaluate caddie performance aided by members' comments and caddie evaluations through Club Up.
8. Promote caddies to higher pay grades when appropriate. This will need to be done through Club Up as all payments will also be through the program linked through Venmo.
9. Utilize Club Up to maintain a caddie evaluation and ranking system. Each round a caddie is rated through the app just like an Uber driver. Make sure all caddies strive to achieve at least a 4/5 star rating. If there are any caddies that struggle, help them with more training.
10. Maintain Caddie/Bag Room Manager's office and see that the bag room and cart staging and storage areas are kept clean and presentable.
11. Maintain an operating Bag Room schedule and make sure that daily operation as well as special events are fully staffed properly.
