The Substance Abuse Counselor/CADC Intern plays a critical role in supporting individuals on their path to recovery. This position provides assessment, counseling, and care coordination services for individuals experiencing substance use challenges. The counselor collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement personalized, recovery-oriented treatment plans, while offering guidance, education, and emotional support. This role is essential in helping clients build coping skills, access resources, and successfully transition to ongoing care and community support.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitation of group and individual counseling sessions
  • Provide ongoing screening and diagnostic assessment for all active clients using the NJSAMS data collection system as well as linkages.
  • Daily documentation of consumer's clinical progress according to prescribed BHH Standards and requirements.
  • Develop treatment plan.
  • Participate in a multi-disciplinary treatment team for collaboration of consumer care and for clinical supervision.
  • Provide psychoeducation, skill building to active consumers and family members.
  • Assist consumer in identifying their personal recovery needs and how these needs might be met
  • Facilitate linkages to community based supports.
  • Provide crisis intervention as necessary.
  • Monitor consumer's medication compliance, side effects.
  • Case management and referrals
  • Other duties as assigned*

Requirements

  • Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or related field, or Associates Degree with two year's experience in human services, or Five year's human services experience
  • Written/verbal communication, assessment, group facilitation and computer.
  • Must be enrolled in a course of study leading toย CADC/ LCADC or other health professional license
