Job description

Responsibilities & Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and distinguish properties and types of copper/fiber optic cable
  • Interpret blueprints
  • Inventory job supplies and materials
  • Verify and comply with site safety plan
  • Build telecommunication spaces (e.g., TRs, ERs, EFs, TEs)
  • Install grounding/bonding infrastructure
  • Install cable support systems (e.g. J Hooks, EMT conduit, wire basket tray)
  • Prepare telecommunication outlet at wall, floor, utility column (power pole)
  • Install cut-in rings (cavity box)
  • Install sleeves
  • Install poke throughs between floors
  • Install Inner Duct for fiber optic cable
  • Install cable supports systems under the floor
  • Install firestop and/or smoke barrier system
  • Pull horizontal cables from closet to work area
  • Pull backbone cables between closets
  • Remove abandoned cable
  • Perform copper terminations
  • Perform fiber terminations
  • Perform fiber optic splicing (e.g. fusion, mechanical)
  • Perform fiber cable - basic troubleshooting (e.g., power meter or VFL)
  • Perform Tier 1 fiber certification testing (power meter)
  • Perform Tier 2 fiber testing using OTDR
  • Perform labeling according to a labeling scheme
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal fire and/or building codes and/or standards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Must be US Citizen
  • Obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance within 12 months of hire.
  • 5+ years of cabling experience in the data communications industry.
  • Experience with wired and wireless environments, including 802.11a/b/g/n standards.
  • Experience in organizing and leading network installations, including on-site assessments and technical plan preparation.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation, network topologies, and cabling infrastructure standards.
  • Experience in interpreting technical documentation and performing work per industry-standard installation practices.
  • Must have Aerial lift training
  • Must have Confined Space training
  • Must have Forklift training
  • Must have ten (10) Hour OSHA Basic Industry course

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of telecommunications and data cabling systems, materials, and testing procedures.
  • Ability to install and terminate copper and fiber cabling infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in coordinating and documenting technical installation processes.
  • Physical capability to perform manual tasks in physically demanding environments.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills in high-pressure scenarios.

Certifications:

  • Obtain and maintain active BICSI Installer Level 2 or Technician certification

WAGE INFORMATION

Target salary range: $62,000 - $95,000. The salary range displayed is an estimate only and is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, and will be determined on several factors regarding the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies and experience, as well as contract parameters and organizational requirements.  The displayed salary is one component of the total compensation package for employees.
