Business Unit Finance Lead - Programs
Overview:
Reporting to the Director of Business Unit Finance, the BU Finance Lead will be responsible for leading a team of 2-3 analysts. Activities will include assembling bids and proposals, including estimating the cost, price, profitability, and cash flow of potential contracts. Additional responsibilities include reporting on and analyzing the financial performance of existing contracts and products. The Business Unit Finance team is knowledgeable of the Marotta product lines, production processes, and its value proposition to customers. This position will incorporate estimates from Functional Groups into costing and pricing templates and prepare cost positions for bids and negotiations. Additionally, the BU Finance Lead will provide the appropriate financial reporting and analysis to both internal and external customers, aligning sales and profitability objectives by gaining perspective and data from its internal customers in an efficient and professional manner.
Reporting to the Director of Business Unit Finance, the BU Finance Lead plays a critical role in driving profitable growth by supporting the team in bid and proposal development, including creating new processes for detailed analysis of cost, pricing, margin, and cash flow for new contract opportunities. The role is also responsible for leading the team in evaluating the financial performance of existing contracts and product lines, providing timely and actionable insights to business leadership. As a key member of the Business Unit Finance team, this individual will develop a strong understanding of Marotta's products, manufacturing processes, and customer value proposition, and will integrate inputs from cross-functional partners into standardized costing and pricing models. The BU Finance Lead will prepare financial positions to support negotiations and decision-making, deliver high-quality financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders, and work collaboratively to align sales objectives with profitability goals through disciplined, data-driven analysis.
Primary / Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise, train, and mentor a small group of 2-3 financial analysts, delegating day-to-day tasks and reviewing their deliverables.
  • Ensure team deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Act as an escalation point for programmatic issues, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment
  • Pricing lead on customer RFPs/RFQs, in both FAR regulated and competitive environment for new programs & products, existing products, assemblies, spare parts, and repairs.
  • Interfaces with various members of the proposal team (Business Development, Operations, Engineering, Quality, etc.) regarding all elements of quotes and supporting logic.
  • Support both customer and DCAA/DCMA audits serving as Marotta Finance Lead for the bid / proposal under audit.
  • Review costed bills of material, including make vs. buy decisions, for consistency and best value with Supply Chain, Program Management, and other subject matter experts.
  • Assist the engineering and production teams by analyzing cost drivers on new and historical designs as part of variance analysis and bid and proposal activities.
  • Gathers, validates, and analyzes sales and cost-of-sales data to evaluate business performance (e.g., gross margin compared to budgeted and forecasted expectations).
  • Assembles and reviews monthly financial performance trackers with the operations, production management, and program management teams.
  • Conducts monthly variance analysis across all lines of Business Unit P&L: Revenue, Cost of Sales, and Gross Profit.
  • Gather inputs from subject matter experts for Estimates to Complete (ETCs) and Estimates at Complete (EACs) in support of Earned Value for select programs associated within the Business Unit.
  • Responsible for reporting and analyzing program financial data to support weekly, monthly and annual reviews.
  • Analyze program performance with Program Management to identify risks and opportunities in connection with development and production program execution.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives.
  • Lead, and/or actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. to provide constructive recommendations and initiate actions to support company initiatives/goals
  • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required).
  • Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements.
  • Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals.
  • Assist in the training of personnel to perform required technical tasks (as directed).
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values.
  • Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, including Finance or Production/Operations background in Aerospace and Defense industry.
  • B.S. Finance, Accounting, Engineering or other technical discipline
  • Core working knowledge of EVM principles and project or program specific application, government contracting experience is a plus
  • Experience working on government contracts in following capacities, and not limited to the following:
    • Contracts Management
    • Pricing / Proposals
    • Business Mgt.
    • Experience in supporting audits
    • Customer negotiations
    • Performing Program Financial Metrics such as EAC's, ETC, as well as EVMS (CPI / SPI)
  • Superior Microsoft Excel skills
  • Knowledge of ERP systems
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as any and all outside agents/agencies
  • Highly computer literate, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.
  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple assignments simultaneously within a short period of time
  • Must be a US Citizen

Pay Range: $102-127k/year
