How much do business summer jobs pay per hour?
What is the difference between Business Summer vs Business Analyst?
| Aspect | Business Summer | Business Analyst |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Typically students or interns, no formal certification needed | Bachelor's degree often required; certifications like CBAP are a plus |
| Work Environment | Internship or temporary role, often in corporate or consulting settings | Full-time or contract role, working on project analysis and process improvement |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Used by companies for summer internship programs in various industries | Commonly employed in finance, tech, and consulting firms for project support |
The main difference is that a Business Summer is typically an internship for students gaining initial exposure, while a Business Analyst is a more experienced role focused on analyzing business processes and supporting decision-making. The Business Summer role is often temporary and educational, whereas a Business Analyst is a full-time position requiring specific skills and credentials.

Our M&A Tracks & The Work You Will Do
Do you have your finger on the pulse of the vast, fast paced, and ever-changing deal environment? Have a passion for current trends in accounting and finance? As a Summer Scholar in the M&A group at Deloitte, you'll be part of a national team that is the recognized marketplace leader among large professional services firms in providing merger, acquisition, and divestiture services to corporate strategic buyers and private equity investors. Our multi-disciplinary approach combines M&A, industry, and other function specialists to provide fact-based answers and objective feedback geared to minimizing risk and increasing returns.
At Deloitte, we support our clients in a variety of ways. Please take a look at our M&A Analyst tracks to understand the work that we do:
M&A Summer Scholar - Analytics
As an M&A Analytics Summer Scholar, you'll help clients and deal teams translate key finance, accounting, and operational questions into data-driven insights across the transaction lifecycle. You'll shadow on projects from buy-side diligence through performance improvement and post-close integrations. You'll work alongside experienced practitioners to build analyses, dashboards, and repeatable workflows that surface key value drivers and support confident business decisions.
Specific areas of work could include:
- Work with key stakeholders (FP&A, Controllership, Strategic Finance, Private Equity teams, etc.) to gather, organize, and prepare data from relevant systems and sources
- Leverage data manipulation (e.g. Alteryx, SQL, Python), visualization (Tableau, PowerBI), and reporting (Excel, Powerpoint) tools to address key questions
- Leverage accounting/financial knowledge to assess business implications of analytic results
- Synthesize key takeaways, communicate actionable insights, and present findings in reports
- Support innovation efforts leveraging new technology to create analyses, dashboards, and workstreams that enhance Deloitte's ability to serve clients
M&A Summer Scholar - Business (FDD)
As an M&A Business Summer Scholar, you will leverage your accounting experience to research and work with M&A teams on a broad spectrum of financial analyses and technical accounting matters including complex issues in accounting for business combinations, consolidations, share-based compensation, revenue recognition, leases, intangibles, and financial instruments.
Specific work areas could include:
- Demonstrate an ability to identify and evaluate business, industry, financial, and accounting-related risks in connection with the transaction
- Assist in identifying potential "deal breakers", including industry, country, and deal-specific risks and opportunities
- Evaluate a company's historical and projected earnings and cash flows; hidden contingencies, commitments, and exposures; as well as quality of assets and internal control structure
- Review and comment on financial and accounting considerations in investment models, bank finance agreements, and public debt offering documents
- Assist in structuring purchase price adjustment mechanisms and other relevant accounting and financial considerations in purchase agreements
- Identify integration and post-transaction transition issues
- Assist with divestiture strategy, planning, and execution
The Team
Our Deloitte team plays a major role in directly embedding technology insights into our clients' organizational goals. At Deloitte, our consultants create sharply-focused solutions within an organization's operating model, accounting for its people, intellectual capital, technology, and processes. Engagement teams at Deloitte drive value for our clients but also understand the importance of developing resources and contributing to the communities in which we work. We make it our business to take issue to impact, both within and beyond a client setting.
Required Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and expected to graduate by Spring/Summer 2028 pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in one of the following majors or a related/equivalent program
- Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Economics
- Strong academic track record (3.0 cumulative GPA required)
- You must reside within a commutable distance of your assigned office with the ability to commute daily, if required. You can expect to co-locate on average 30% - 50% of the week with variations based on types of work/projects and client locations
- Ability to travel up to 50%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at time of employment
Preferred Qualifications
- 3.2 cumulative GPA preferred
- Familiarity with analytics tools and programming languages including, but not limited to:
- Data Visualization Tools: Tableau, Power BI, QlikView
- Data Management: Alteryx, Python, SQL
- Meet minimal educational requirements for CPA licensure (which may differ from the educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam) in the state of your assigned office location prior to beginning full-time employment
- Relevant work experience or work experience in a professional environment
- Demonstrated recent leadership, such as campus clubs, society, sports, or other activity
- Demonstrated recent social impact or volunteer activity
This is an entry-level opportunity intended for candidates interested in beginning or building a career in this field. We welcome applicants from a range of educational and professional backgrounds who meet the qualifications for the role. For roles that require a year or more of work experience, please review the experienced jobs within our careers site.
The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate is $40/hour.
