Job description
At KPMG in Canada, our people bring their unique perspectives to Canada’s most important challenges. Here, you can build momentum that reaches beyond our business, develop skills for the future, and take ownership of your career with support at every stage. Join a firm where your career can make a difference.
Your work matters. As part of our Audit & Assurance practice, you’ll deliver highquality work that supports trust, transparency, and confidence across both public and private organizations. We foster an environment of high challenge, where curiosity and critical thinking are encouraged. Through high support, including progressive learning, strong coaching, inclusive teamwork, and a shared commitment to integrity, we perform at our best – measuring what matters, recognizing impact, and continuously evolving to deliver excellence. This creates a culture where the best work happens when high challenge and high support work together. That balance is how our values show up—in how we work, how we lead, and what we deliver.
The team you are joining is an integral part of KPMG’s Department of Professional Practice (DPP). This team helps provide thought leadership and guidance on emerging standards and trends, leading and shaping key components of the firm’s System of Quality Management (SQM), including delivery of firmwide learning and representing the function in internal and external inspections. As part of our SQM team, you will collaborate with stakeholders across the business to provide best-in-class industry and technical expertise to internally support the superior quality of client engagements.
The position involves frequent collaboration with leaders and stakeholders across the firm, as well as members of the KPMG Global quality management team and others across the KPMG network. This is a highly visible role that requires a blend of technical expertise, team leadership, and strong problemsolving skills, and it is well suited for a creative professional who is comfortable developing effective solutions in a dynamic environment.
What you will do
- Hold a critical role in the design, implementation, maintenance, and review of the quality management systems under the new Canadian Standards for Quality Management (CSQM1 and CSQM 2 and CAS 220) and QC 1000.
- Develop a deep understanding of firm-wide processes, policies, and controls and contribute to establishing and maintaining policies, guidelines, procedures, and tools.
- Drive continuous improvement by challenging process design and simplifying controls without losing effectiveness.
- Apply industry and technical expertise to risks, internal process and control issues, and compliance through reports, technical work, presentations, and high-quality deliverables.
- Promote and explain the importance of quality management to partners, senior leadership, and team members across the Firm.
- Apply global quality management methodologies (e.g., ISQM1, PCAOB QC 1000) to assess risk, define responses, and evidence compliance.
- Lead Firm-wide training for the concepts, tools, and templates as they relate to the systems quality management.
- Contribute to strategic and operational planning related to quality management, as well as the development of innovative ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
What you bring to the role
- CPA (or equivalent) with 7+ years of relevant audit work experience in a technical role which could include working with internal audits or controls or working with quality management systems and control principles.
- Proven ability to interact with confidence with partners and senior leadership across the country within the firm.
- Demonstrates exceptional project management skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and activities.
- Critical thinking skills with the ability to quickly grasp complex issues and scenarios.
- Strong technical background in Global Audit Methodology, PCAOB and ICFR experience.
- Ability to address conflicts or issues, engaging in difficult conversations with team members and other stakeholders, escalating where appropriate.
- Experience in facilitating internal training courses and/or external presentations.
- Excellent written materials (PowerPoint) and data summaries (Power BI a plus).
- Proficiency in English at a business level is required.
