Job Summary

The Nursing Professional Governance Consultant provides strategic, operational, and consultative leadership for the health system's Nursing Professional Governance model. Serving as the operational lead for Nursing Governance, this role is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of governance structures, councils, and initiatives across the organization.

Working in close partnership with nursing executive leadership, Gateway, Nursing Professional Practice Councils, Nursing Professional Practice Steering Committee, and interdisciplinary stakeholders, this position ensures governance priorities advance from concept through implementation while aligning with organizational strategic priorities, professional nursing practice, and the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program? framework.

This role functions as an internal consultant and subject matter expert, providing leadership in governance operations, project management, stakeholder engagement, process improvement, analytics, and digital workflow optimization.

Responsibilities*

Nursing Professional Governance Leadership

  • Serve as the operational leader for the Nursing Professional Governance Program across the health system.
  • Provide end-to-end coordination and oversight of governance activities, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and professional practice standards.
  • Partner with executive nursing leadership, Gateway, Nursing Professional Practice Councils, and the Nursing Professional Practice Steering Committee to operationalize governance priorities.
  • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for Nursing Governance across the organization.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve governance infrastructure, policies, workflows, bylaws, and standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate governance calendars, annual work plans, committee structures, deliverables, and implementation timelines.
  • Lead governance onboarding, education, and resource development for council members and nursing leaders.

Governance Operations & Project Leadership

  • Lead multiple complex governance initiatives from proposal through implementation and evaluation.
  • Coordinate governance recommendations through all phases of review, approval, implementation, communication, and outcome measurement.
  • Facilitate collaboration between frontline nurses, nursing leadership, operational departments, and interdisciplinary partners.
  • Identify operational barriers, recommend solutions, and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Support enterprise change management efforts related to governance-driven practice and operational improvements.
  • Coordinate Nursing Governance events, including Poster Day, recognition activities, annual planning sessions, and executive governance meetings.

Executive Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the liaison between Gateway, governance councils, executive leadership, and operational stakeholders.
  • Coordinate preparation of governance meeting materials, executive presentations, agendas, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure effective communication between unit-based councils, system councils, executive committees, and organizational leadership.
  • Represent Nursing Governance in interdisciplinary workgroups and organizational committees as assigned.

Data Analytics & Performance Improvement

  • Develop and maintain governance dashboards and reporting using Power BI and other reporting platforms.
  • Analyze governance metrics, council performance, participation, implementation outcomes, and organizational impact.
  • Translate complex data into actionable insights for executive leadership and governance councils.
  • Establish performance measures to evaluate governance effectiveness and continuous improvement.
  • Align governance metrics with organizational quality, workforce, safety, experience, and strategic goals.

Digital Solutions & Process Improvement

  • Design and maintain governance workflows utilizing Microsoft Power Apps, Power BI, SharePoint, Microsoft Forms, and related technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to automate governance processes and improve operational efficiency.
  • Partner with Nursing Informatics and Information Technology teams to optimize digital governance solutions.
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives that enhance governance effectiveness and user experience.

Professional Nursing Practice

  • Integrate evidence-based practice, nursing standards, and professional practice principles into governance initiatives.
  • Support implementation of practice changes approved through Nursing Governance.
  • Collaborate with nursing leaders to evaluate the effectiveness and sustainability of governance-driven initiatives.
  • Support organizational readiness for Magnet Recognition Program requirements related to professional governance.
Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible healthcare leadership, project management, or operational consulting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational consulting, facilitation, and relationship management skills.
  • Experience developing executive-level presentations, reports, and communications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience utilizing data to drive operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex priorities in a fast-paced academic healthcare environment.
