As a Principal Engineer for Business Process Automation, you will play a pivotal role in the end-to-end lifecycle of enterprise workflow automation solutions using no-code/low-code platforms like Appian, Microsoft Power Platform, and RunMyProcess. You will identify automation opportunities, translate business needs into efficient workflows, and streamline critical business operations to improve efficiency. This role also requires driving innovation through the integration of Generative AI (GenAI) and agentic workflows into automation solutions to enhance decision-making, productivity, and business outcomes.
This senior role requires strong technical skills, leadership to mentor junior engineers, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and practical application of agile methodologies. Excellent communication skills are needed to articulate complex concepts and present solutions. Staying updated on automation and AI trends is essential for recommending innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the complete lifecycle of enterprise workflow automation solutions, encompassing the initial conceptualization, detailed design, development, testing, seamless deployment, and ongoing maintenance, utilizing primarily no-code and low-code platforms such as Appian and Microsoft Power Automate.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with diverse cross-functional teams, including business analysts, process owners, IT architects, and end-users, to meticulously gather and document comprehensive business and technical requirements. Translate these requirements into clear and concise user stories, detailed process flows, and technical specifications that serve as the blueprint for automation solutions.
  • Take ownership of the end-to-end implementation and continuous optimization of business process automation solutions. This includes configuring workflows, developing custom connectors or integrations when necessary, ensuring data integrity and security, and rigorously testing solutions to guarantee optimal performance and reliability. The primary goal is to demonstrably improve organizational efficiency, streamline operational workflows, and achieve significant reductions in operational costs through strategic automation.
  • Lead end-to-end implementation and optimization of business process automation solutions. This involves workflow configuration, custom development if needed, ensuring data integrity and security, and testing. The aim is to significantly enhance organizational efficiency, streamline operations, and reduce costs through strategic automation.
  • Provide strong technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers, business analysts, and other team members involved in automation initiatives. Foster a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment, promoting best practices and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality automation solutions.
  • Champion and ensure strict adherence to agile methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban, and established best practices throughout the software development lifecycle for all automation projects. This includes participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to ensure timely delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with a wide range of stakeholders, including business users with varying levels of technical understanding, project managers responsible for overall project delivery, and other technical resources involved in related systems or integrations. This requires the ability to articulate complex technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner, present progress updates, and manage expectations effectively.
  • Continuously monitor and stay abreast of the latest industry trends, advancements, and emerging technologies in the field of business process automation, particularly within no-code and low-code platform ecosystems. Evaluate the potential impact of these developments on the organization and recommend innovative solutions to further enhance automation capabilities and drive business value.
  • Provide the best approach to building and licensing automation platforms to help control costs
  • Create a strategy for automation platforms, covering technology selection, architecture, and development guidelines. This strategy should emphasize cost control through efficient resource use and reduced overhead.
  • Detail a cost-effective and compliant licensing model that addresses different deployments, user access, scalability, IP protection, and usage tracking across the organization.
  • Pioneer the integration of Generative AI (GenAI) and agentic workflows into enterprise Business Process Automation solutions, including the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) for automated drafting, summarization, and decision support within platforms such as Appian.
  • Develop and implement strategies for deploying AI agents to automate complex, multi-step processes across business functions and workflows, ensuring seamless integration with existing low-code/no-code platforms.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required

Work Experience
  • 7-10 years working in innovation and delivery platforms preferred
  • 4-7 years extensive and proven experience in the complete lifecycle of enterprise workflow and business process automation solutions, from conceptualization to deployment and maintenance required
  • 4-7 years demonstrable subject matter expertise in utilizing no-code/low-code platforms, with deep practical experience in platforms such as Appian and Microsoft Power Platform required
  • 4-7 years strong grasp and practical application of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) within software development lifecycles, including demonstrable experience in developing clear and concise user stories required
  • 7-10 years exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, present solutions effectively, and collaborate seamlessly within cross-functional teams required
  • 4-7 years rxperience in developing strategies for automation platforms, including technology selection, architecture, and development guidelines, with a focus on cost control required
  • 4-7 years experience in defining and implementing cost-effective and compliant licensing models for automation platforms. Pref
  • 2-4 years femonstrable experience integrating AI/Generative AI models or agents with workflow platforms such as Appian, Microsoft Power Platform, or similar low-code automation tools. Req

Licenses and Certifications
  • ITMCAS - Microsoft Certified Application Specialist Microsoft Power Platform preferred
