Job Description

Johnson County Library is a 14-branch suburban library system with a long history in our community. A suburb of the Kansas City metro area, our county is growing and diversifying. The Johnson County Library seeks engaged, qualified candidates to fill the position of Business Intelligence Analyst II. The Business Intelligence Analyst II brings to the table a vast amount of domain knowledge in which they use to tap into the magic of data and make it meaningful. Under general supervision this position plays a collaborative role working within the Department and/or across the County to develop business intelligence data to inform decision makers on emerging internal/external trends. This position empowers the department to turn data into information, information into insight and insight into business decisions.

Duties include:

    Acts as the domain expert within the department/agency/County understanding the existing systems as well as the culture and business objectives; cleans, reviews, manipulates and conducts higher level analysis; works collaboratively with the Data Analysts to retrieve extracted data from the data warehouse; implements and manages the BI solution; ensures data is secure and develops, implements and revises data cleansing procedures.
  • Designs and develops higher data analysis solutions; reviews and analyzes data from multiple internal and external sources; proactively analyzes data to answer key questions from stakeholders or out of self-initiated curiosity with an eye for what drives business performance; collaborates with (Data Analysts) to create an understanding of the business operations.
  • Through higher level analysis of data, identifies areas or ways to increase success of the department/agency; tracks performance, optimizes operations, predicts success of new programs, identifies trends and business issues; compares data with other entities.
  • Creates advanced data visualization for presentations, ensures presentations are understandable and user friendly.
  • Works collaboratively with (Business Intelligence Specialists) internally across departments and externally in order to communicate the business's data requirements; assists in determining viable solutions for identified deliverables; assesses value of new data elements, creates modeling approaches; ensures constant compliance with standards; works with departments, management, and key stakeholders, in developing detailed business requirements, conducts gap analysis, creates functional designs, and guides the business's leadership through complex analytical data processing.
  • Mentors Business Intelligence Analyst and leadership in order to raise the knowledge base of modeling, data sourcing and communication of complex topics.
Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in the following fields of study: Computer Science, Information Technology, Economics, Information Systems, Statistics, Applied Math, Business Administration, Department specific degree (i.e. Biology) or any other relevant field of study.
  • Three years' experience gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data as well as sharing findings including visualizing data in graphs and charts and presenting it along with recommendations based on findings
  • Attention to detail.
  • Analytical skills, including research skills, ability to interpret data, ability to conceptualize, ability to analyze information, and ability to write formal recommendations based on findings.
  • Basic mathematical and accounting skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and BI Tool
  • Keyboarding ability.
  • Human relations/interpersonal skills.
  • Written communication skills, including business writing, report writing, summarizing and editing skills.
  • Oral communication skills, including presentations to individuals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.

Experience may substitute for education.
