What is a business intelligence developer?

Business Intelligence Developers are IT professionals who design, develop, and maintain BI solutions that help organizations make data-driven decisions. They create and manage data models, dashboards, and reports using BI tools, and often work with databases to extract, transform, and load data. Their work enables businesses to analyze trends, monitor performance, and gain actionable insights from large volumes of data. BI Developers collaborate closely with business stakeholders and data analysts to ensure the solutions meet organizational needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a business intelligence developer?

To thrive as a Business Intelligence Developer, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in data modeling, and experience with databases, often supported by a degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Expertise in BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), along with knowledge of SQL and ETL processes, is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top performers apart in this role.
