The Dean of The Sullivan School of Business, Engineering and Technology (SSBET) serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the school and provides strategic leadership to advance its mission, enrollment, reputation, and impact. The Dean is responsible for academic quality, faculty leadership, financial stewardship, external partnerships, fundraising, accreditation oversight, and long-range planning. The Dean represents the school to university leadership, alumni, donors, business and industry partners, and the broader community while fostering an innovative, student-centered culture that prepares graduates for successful careers and leadership.
Responsibilities:
Create a supportive teaching and learning environment for students, faculty, and staff.
Facilitate the annual strategic planning and goal setting process for the SSBET in conjunction with Academic Affairs' strategic initiatives and Carroll University's mission, ethos, and strategic plan.
Engage in successful revenue generation, donor cultivation, and school-wide advancement and marketing in partnership with Institutional Advancement.
Maintain productive relationships with national and international business communities.
Lead all external partnerships, including the school's advisory board.
Ensure the expansion and development of market-driven global programs across the school.
Represent the SSBET to the Deans' Council, Board of Trustees, university community, and external audiences to communicate the school's capabilities, accomplishments, impact, and aspirations.
Ensure the school meets or exceeds all accreditation requirements.
Serve as the SSBET primary representative, spokesperson, and advocate in the school's student recruitment, retention, and reputation management efforts.
Recruit, develop, evaluate, and lead the chairs, faculty and staff in the SSBET in a manner that inspires individuals and teams to perform at their best.
Develop budgets, staffing plans, and collaborative allocation of scarce resources with chairs and departmental faculty.
Complete annual performance evaluation of chairs, administrators, and staff; collaborating with chairs on performance evaluation of faculty.
Make recommendations for promotion, tenure and sabbaticals to the relevant faculty governance committees.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Doctorate or terminal degree preferred, preferably in a discipline within the school
20+ years of successful experience in higher education and/or business, with evidence of increased levels of responsibilities of leadership
An understanding of the business of private higher education
A strong record of partnerships with external stakeholders
Experience with change management
Human Relations Skills:
A record of progressive and proven leadership experience
A strong record of success in attaining external funding through gifts, grants, and partnerships
Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, ability, socio-economic background, or job type.
Evidence of a collaborative leadership and management style that advances goals and programs, evokes trust, and effectively engages the talents, strengths, and experiences of faculty, staff, alumni, and donors
Outstanding communication skills
Highly developed relationship-building skills and evidence of strong ties to regional businesses and other stakeholders
Candidates must be willing and able to support and advance the University Mission
Compliance:
Employees may be required to report violations of law under Title IX and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:
