Your Opportunity

Our Environmental Services group is looking for an experienced environmental sciences or environmental engineering practitioner to join our team as a Business Development Professional and Senior Project Manager working across the Mountain Region (11 states in the Western US). Stantec is experiencing growth in the mining industry as we expand our work in mine planning, critical minerals development, and mine closure. Your Key Responsibilities Business Development
  • Help set the vision and lead the expansion of our mining business in the western United States.
  • Support the achievement of continuing regional growth for the Mining Sector.
  • Manage and grow multiple key client accounts within the Mining sector.
  • Develop and maintain a broad range of client relationships throughout the sector.
  • Identify, pursue, and lead business development opportunities consistent with the strategic plan.
  • Drive revenue growth opportunities for the entire range of Stantec services and champion an integrated services approach.
  • Work with regional business leaders, regional growth leaders, technical discipline leaders, sector leaders, and other business developers to achieve business performance targets.
  • Support growth of a team of high performers. This will include supporting recruitment and retention of subject matter experts, project managers, and other account managers.
Strategic Thinking
  • Identify trends and develop a long‑term view of the sector market and key client account base. Work to position the company in key portions of the regional market to provide for sustainable growth.
  • Develop and implement “win” strategies, including client contact, proposal preparation, and preparation of and participation in client interviews.
  • Support setting the vision and executing the implementation of our mining sector strategic plan by growing the western US within a collaborative team environment.
  • Innovate and enhance our capabilities, geographic footprint, and integrated approach.
  • Use critical thinking, good business sense, and organizational values to make collaborative decisions in situations involving varying levels of risk and ambiguity.
Project Management
  • Guide the permitting and planning process and oversee all aspects of a variety of mining‑related projects, including client contact, budget control and invoicing, schedule, personnel allocation/planning, public interest facilitation, technical approach, and subcontractor management.
  • Mentor and develop staff in technical practices, regulatory strategy, and project management efforts.
  • Coordinate with clients, regulatory/resource agencies, local governments.
  • Manage technical studies and ecological resource assessments that are performed by subject matter experts for mining projects such as traffic analyses, air & noise analyses, socioeconomic analyses, wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and other natural resource surveys.
  • Manage permitting/compliance projects related to mining projects.
  • Oversee and/or perform research, conduct environmental analyses (field and desktop), develop recommendations, and prepare technical reports under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) or other federal, state, and local requirements (laws, regulations, policies, and ordinances).
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control for all final products to ensure technical accurateness and regulatory compliance.
Leadership
  • Work with other business lines within Stantec to build integrated service delivery for projects.
  • Attract and retain staff needed to secure and deliver sector specific expertise and client relationship growth.
  • Provide effective leadership, marketing direction and guidance to a team of professionals dedicated to growing our western US teams and further develop Stantec’s profile in the marketplace.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong project management and business development skills, including significant experience building and maintaining productive relationships with mining clients.
  • Client account and top‑line management experience at a scale of >$5M net revenue per year.
  • Strong understanding and experience within the mining sector.
  • Solid reputation and high level of personal and professional credibility based upon in‑depth experience and successful client outcomes.
  • Substantial experience in environmental consulting and a solid background serving the needs of mining clients.
  • Team player with ability to both lead and support projects and initiatives within a collaborative environment.
  • Technical skills and ability to understand mining client’s key needs and formulate solutions.
  • Ability to travel dependent on need and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Achieve annual HSE targets.
  • Help drive and achieve budgeted sales and net revenue in for the Mountain Region in the Mining Sector.
  • Achieve budgeted sales and net revenue with assigned key account(s).
  • Recruit and retain sector‑specific strategic hires.
  • Manage and/or serve as principal‑in‑charge of key projects to meet a target utilization of 50 percent.
  • Demonstrate collaboration across Stantec based on feedback from internal colleagues.
Education and Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field. Advanced degrees and professional registration are strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience, which must include relevant experience within the mining sector, with a minimum of 5 years within a consulting role.
Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range:

  • Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas—$128,600.00 – $192,900.00 Annually
  • Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA Areas—$141,500.00 – $212,200.00 Annually
  • Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas—$151,700.00 – $227,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary: Regular full‑time and part‑time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short‑term/long‑term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full‑time and part‑time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law. The benefits information listed above may not apply to union positions because benefits for such positions are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreements.
