Position Overview

The Senior Designer – Interiors leads the design and execution of interior architecture and interior design projects, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and aligned with Baker Barrios Architects’ standards of quality and design excellence. This role is responsible for managing project design efforts, mentoring team members, coordinating with clients and consultants, and maintaining the integrity of the design concept throughout all phases of a project.

The Senior Designer brings extensive industry experience and advanced creative, technical, and leadership capabilities to projects of increasing complexity. This individual exercises sound judgment, effective time management, and strong collaboration skills while contributing to a culture of mentorship, innovation, and One BBA teamwork.

Essential Job Functions
  • Lead communication and coordination efforts with clients, consultants, vendors, and internal project teams.
  • Establish and develop design concepts in collaboration with project leadership and ensure the integrity of the design intent throughout all project phases.
  • Manage project design efforts and provide leadership and direction to junior team members and support staff.
  • Assist in the technical development and coordination of project documentation to ensure quality, constructability, and alignment with design goals.
  • Actively participate in quality control reviews to verify the accuracy and completeness of project deliverables.
  • Prepare and lead client presentations, material selections, finish palettes, furniture concepts, and design documentation.
  • Mentor and educate junior staff while supporting professional growth and team development.
  • Participate in project budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning discussions.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and material samples for compliance with project intent and specifications.
  • Participate in site observations, installations, and construction administration activities as required.
  • Collaborate across offices and disciplines to support the One BBA culture and integrated project delivery approach.
  • Continuously pursue professional development, industry knowledge, and emerging trends in design, materials, and technology.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics
  • Minimum of 8 years of industry experience required.
  • 10+ years of experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field from an accredited institution preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • NCIDQ certification and/or professional licensure preferred or actively being pursued.
  • Strong understanding of interior design principles, interior architecture, furniture systems, finish applications, and design presentation techniques.
  • Advanced creative abilities including concept development, space planning, hand sketching, and selection of colors, materials, finishes, and furnishings.
  • Ability to creatively solve complex design challenges while balancing aesthetics, functionality, budget, and technical requirements.
  • Knowledge of interior design codes, accessibility standards, life safety requirements, and construction practices.
  • Experience in all phases of the design process including programming, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, FF&E budgeting and specifications, procurement, and construction administration.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities with effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment by taking direction, providing direction, and proactively communicating project needs and solutions.
  • Positive and professional attitude toward clients, team members, leadership, and firm initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and specification/sourcing platforms.
