Job description

Architect, Business Development

StructureCraft Seattle, Washington, United States

About this position

Position Overview

StructureCraft’s Business Development team is looking for someone with architectural training to lead our proposal and qualification development. The role centers on proposal production, technical writing, and visual communication for a structural engineering and construction firm whose projects range from community centers to offices to botanical gardens.

We engineer and build beautiful and efficient structures in timber, steel, glass, concrete, and hybrid systems. Our proposals need to communicate both the engineering and the construction, clearly and precisely, to architects, developers, and owners who expect a high standard. That requires someone who understands buildings and has a meticulous attention to detail.

In this role – Architect, Business Development – you will lead the development of proposal / RFP responses for world‑class structures across North America and abroad, working with some of the best designers in the industry.

Expect a warm, close BD team atmosphere with significant potential for growth and increased responsibility. Often you will face quick deadlines and intense deliverables, but with a high success rate and a unique sales edge – our delivery model (learn more below). You will be responsible for new presentations, technical engineering and construction proposals, qualifications submittals, and proposal database management.

You will report to the Manager of Business Development & Preconstruction, working closely with our whole BD and Marketing team.

The Role
  • Lead the production of proposals, qualifications packages, and presentations for structural engineering and construction pursuits across North America and internationally
  • Read and interpret RFPs and RFQs. Build compliance matrices, coordinate content from engineers and sub‑consultants, and manage pursuit timelines from kickoff through submission
  • Identify opportunities to use AI tools and automation to improve how proposals and BD materials are produced, with the goal of building more efficient, repeatable, and scalable workflows over time
  • Write and edit technical proposal content: firm narratives, project descriptions, approach statements, team qualifications, and executive summaries
  • Design and produce deliverables in InDesign, Word, etc. to a high visual standard, maintaining brand consistency across all client‑facing materials
  • Maintain the content library: project sheets, team resumes, firm profiles, and boilerplate
  • Participate in go/no‑go discussions, contributing your understanding of design teams, project delivery, and client priorities
  • Support presentation preparation for shortlist interviews
  • As the role grows, contribute to broader BD activities: client outreach, market research, conference preparation, and content development
Who We Are

StructureCraft combines creative, pioneering structural engineering with the old‑world idea of a “master‑builder”, bringing a single source of responsibility for the design and construction of a building’s structure.

We’re a unique, family‑owned, vertically integrated design‑build company of 200 engineering and construction professionals that specializes in timber structures, incorporating steel, glass, concrete and other materials. Since our beginning in 1998, we have pioneered award‑winning structural concepts to help create carefully detailed building and bridge structures in which people the world over love to work and play. We work across institutional, high rise, office, residential, cultural, and other public projects, and leverage our experience to stay at the leading edge of the mass timber “revolution”.

We are rooted in our mission of “making beautiful structures possible,” which harnesses both traditional principles and paradigm‑shifting innovation to bring the inherent properties of materials to their highest use. As a firm of master engineers and timber construction experts with offices in Canada, the United States, and Italy, we partner with world‑renowned developers, owners and architects, often as the Structural Engineer of Record, to create buildings that are elegant in their own right, sustainable, and also serve the greater good of a community.

Our head office and shop is located in the beautiful Fraser Valley, just an hour east of Vancouver, and close to the growing Abbotsford airport. Our Vancouver office is located in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood, strategically located near our architecture and construction/development clients with a global reach. Our international engineering offices are located in Seattle, WA (near Greenlake) and Trento, Italy. We also have remote staff working in Toronto, Copenhagen, Washington, DC and other spots across the world.

What You Bring
  • Architecture degree. B.Arch, M.Arch, or similar architecture / design degree or diploma. Registration is not required.
  • InDesign proficiency. You will produce proposals and presentations in InDesign regularly. Experience with the broader Adobe Creative Cloud is an asset.
  • Sharp, nimble personality with a good grasp of the latest technology and AI innovations. You use large language models (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or similar) as a core production tool – generating, formatting, and automating deliverables as part of your daily workflow – not just as a chatbot.
  • StructureCraft is actively exploring how agentic coding environments can reshape how proposals and client‑facing materials are produced. This role will be central to that evolution.
  • Strong InDesign proficiency and experience with the broader Adobe Creative Cloud. You will produce proposals and presentations regularly to a high visual standard. Experience with Bluebeam Revu, PowerPoint, MS Word, and Canva.
  • Particularity for technical writing, including a penchant for “getting it right” in grammar, proposal organization, and quality of content. Our proposals range from short qualifications documents to long‑form, project‑specific narratives.
  • Motivation to take ownership of pursuits start to finish. Ability to think holistically – digest RFPs into succinct outlines and high‑priority tasks, coordinate content from engineers and sub‑consultants, and manage deadlines without being managed.
  • Proven ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment. High sense of urgency, attention to detail, proactiveness, and comfort working directly with senior management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication in English, with the ability to phrase broad technical ideas concisely.
  • Passion for architecture, engineering, and design, and being part of a collaborative, tight‑knit team in a creative environment.
  • Have a sense of urgency in meeting goals and exceeding expectations. Take ownership and accountability start to finish.
  • Communicate openly, regularly, professionally, and in a timely manner. Represent the best interests of StructureCraft at all times.
Nice‑To‑Haves
  • Experience in AEC business development, proposals, marketing, or sales (agency or in‑house)
  • Familiarity with structural engineering concepts or construction methods
  • Knowledge of CRM platforms (we use HubSpot) and content management tools (we use Notion)
  • Experience building internal tools, automations, or workflows using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, Cowork, etc)
  • Ability to build and foster internal and external relationships that are open, collaborative, and professional
  • Extended Health
  • Vision
  • Life Insurance
  • Paid Vacation
  • RRSP or 401k Match
  • and more
Schedule

Full time in person preferred; hybrid and remote options available.
