What is business development architecture?

Business Development Architecture refers to the strategic framework and processes used to identify, develop, and implement growth opportunities within and between organizations. This role combines elements of business development—such as market analysis, partnership building, and revenue generation—with architectural thinking, focusing on designing scalable business models and structures. Professionals in this field work to align business goals with operational capabilities, ensuring sustainable growth and competitive advantage. They often collaborate with various departments to map out processes, optimize resource allocation, and drive innovation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a business development architect?

To excel as a Business Development Architect, you need a strong background in architectural design, business strategy, and market analysis, often supported by a degree in architecture or business and relevant industry experience. Familiarity with design software (such as AutoCAD or Revit), CRM platforms, and project management tools is typically required. Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills set top performers apart in this role. These capabilities are crucial for identifying new business opportunities, building client relationships, and successfully delivering complex architectural projects.

How does a business development architect typically collaborate with sales and technical teams to drive growth?

A Business Development Architect bridges the gap between business strategy and technical execution by working closely with both sales and technical teams. They often translate client needs and market opportunities into actionable solutions, helping sales teams understand technical capabilities and guiding technical teams to develop offerings that align with business goals. Regular cross-functional meetings, joint strategy sessions, and collaborative proposal development are common practices. This collaborative approach ensures that solutions are both technically feasible and aligned with market demand, driving sustainable growth.

Job description

Build One of the Country's Highest-Growth Markets

Due to continued growth, a pioneer in the insulated metal panel industry is adding a Business Development Manager to its commercial team.

This is an opportunity to build and own the Georgia market while representing an industry-leading product portfolio. Rather than inheriting a mature territory, you'll have the autonomy to develop new relationships, drive specifications, and help shape one of the company's highest-priority growth markets.

What You'll Do

  • Develop architectural specifications with architects, engineers, design-build firms, contractors, and building owners.
  • Drive basis-of-design specifications for commercial and industrial construction projects.
  • Conduct Lunch & Learns, AIA/CSI presentations, trade shows, and other educational events.
  • Build long-term relationships throughout the architectural and construction community.
  • Develop new business opportunities and expand the commercial project pipeline.
  • Travel throughout Georgia to support customers and grow market share.
  • Manage opportunities from early design through project award using CRM tools.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience selling commercial building products into the architectural and construction market.
  • Proven ability to influence architects, engineers, contractors, and owners.
  • Understanding of the architectural specification process.
  • Experience building and managing a sales pipeline from project inception through award.
  • Strong business development and territory management skills.
  • Self-starter with a hunter mentality and the ability to develop a market.

Experience with architectural products, insulated metal panels, commercial roofing, metal building systems, building envelope products, exterior cladding, glazing, or other specification-driven commercial building products is highly preferred.

Why Join?

  • Opportunity to build and own one of the country's strongest commercial construction markets.
  • Join a rapidly growing organization investing heavily in its commercial business.
  • Represent an industry-leading portfolio of commercial building products.
  • Highly competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Strong long-term career growth with a collaborative, team-oriented culture.

If you're passionate about developing relationships within the architectural community and driving specification sales, we'd welcome the opportunity to speak with you.
