Description

Controller

Orbitform | Jackson, MI (with oversight of Wardcraft - Spring Arbor, MI and C&B - New Hudson, MI)

About the Role

Orbitform is seeking an experienced Controller to lead financial operations for our family of companies. Based primarily at our Jackson, MI headquarters, this role also provides financial oversight and support for two affiliated businesses: Wardcraft (Spring Arbor, MI) and C&B (New Hudson, MI). You'll own the accounting function end-to-end, from ERP administration and month-end close to budgeting, forecasting, and job costing, while leading a team and partnering directly with the President and site leaders across all three locations.

This is a great fit for a hands-on finance leader who enjoys variety, cross-entity collaboration, and building strong processes rather than just maintaining them.

Requirements

What You'll Do
  • Own setup, monitoring, and maintenance of the ERP system across departments and entities, ensuring accurate financial postings to the general ledger and financial statements
  • Develop and maintain strong processes and controls for accurate, timely transaction recording, with safeguards to detect and prevent errors and fraud
  • Manage financial reporting systems, dashboards, and scorecards across finance and operations
  • Lead monthly/accrual close and reconciliations; prepare monthly financial packages for company management and external stakeholders across Orbitform, Wardcraft, and C&B
  • Review and analyze job costing and standard costing systems; monitor variances and provide feedback for costing and pricing decisions
  • Oversee accounts receivable billing and collections, including credit policy and special terms
  • Analyze investment opportunities and operational efficiencies
  • Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes and business systems
  • Manage forecasting and predictive analytics processes
  • Prepare annual budgets, partnering with the President and department managers on detailed line-item review
  • Lead, develop, and manage the accounting team, including hiring, performance management, and fostering a culture that supports career growth and employee satisfaction
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Accounting (candidates with equivalent experience Orbitform deems sufficient will also be considered)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in plant/manufacturing accounting roles
  • CPA or MBA a plus
  • Working knowledge of ERP/accounting software (Encompix experience a plus)
  • Strong Excel skills, including Power Query and other reporting tools
  • Experience supporting accounting/finance across multiple business units or locations is a plus
  • Comfortable with occasional travel between Jackson, Spring Arbor, and New Hudson locations
Additional Details
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, full-time salary; occasional evenings/weekends as business needs require
  • Travel: Primarily local, with periodic travel between Orbitform, Wardcraft, and C&B locations; some out-of-area/overnight travel may be required
  • Environment: Professional office setting with occasional time in the shop/plant environment
  • Team: This role directly manages the accounting department, including hiring and performance management
