Data Scientist - Mid

TULK is a leading boutique consulting firm providing technology and management consulting services to the U.S. Federal Government. Our expert team supports Defense, Intelligence Community, and National Security customers by helping them acquire, manage, analyze, and improve mission-focused technology, data, and business capabilities.

We are seeking a Data Scientist - Mid to support data analytics, analytic model development, data visualization, business process improvement, and mission-focused decision support. This role is ideal for a cleared data professional with experience using data science methods, scripting, visualization tools, and stakeholder engagement to turn complex data into useful insights.

About the Role

The Data Scientist - Mid will work with project requestors, stakeholders, subject matter experts, and project managers to clarify business needs, analyze data from multiple sources, develop visual products, support analytic tools, and help improve organizational performance. The role may include support for risk scoring, anomaly detection, metrics tracking, dashboard development, data quality analysis, and data-driven business process improvement.

Your Duties

  • Develop data analytics, dashboards, reports, charts, graphs, and visualizations using standard data science and data analysis practices.
  • Integrate, develop, maintain, and support analytic models, visualizations, and tools.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, project requestors, subject matter experts, and project managers to refine requirements and clarify business objectives.
  • Use data analytics to form business insights, identify issues, draw logical conclusions, and recommend ways to improve organizational performance and efficiency.
  • Support risk scoring, anomaly detection, performance monitoring, and other data analysis implementations as required.
  • Capture, maintain, and analyze statistics, timelines, system performance data, and other operational metrics.
  • Transform quantitative and qualitative data into clear visual products, dashboards, reports, and briefing materials.
  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations, technical documents, and briefings for internal teams and leadership audiences.
  • Apply scripting, data manipulation, data cleaning, data transformation, and automation techniques to support analysis and visualization.
  • Work with data from multiple systems, databases, spreadsheets, SharePoint sites, and other information sources.
  • Support process improvement, policy support, business operations, and performance management activities through data analysis and reporting.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic mission environment with changing priorities and short timelines.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Top Secret / SCI security clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Engineering, Geography, Geospatial Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 6 or more years of relevant experience developing data analytics, visualizations, analytic models, dashboards, reports, or data-driven business products.
  • Demonstrated experience using data to form business insights, draw logical conclusions, and support performance-improving strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with stakeholders to clarify project needs, business objectives, data requirements, and analytical questions.
  • Experience developing or supporting analytic models, visualizations, dashboards, metrics, or decision-support tools.
  • Experience creating visual content such as charts, graphs, dashboards, and briefing materials to represent data clearly.
  • Demonstrated coding or scripting experience using tools such as Python, Java, SQL, R, or similar languages to support data manipulation, analysis, automation, or visualization.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tools such as Tableau, SharePoint, Redmine, databases, spreadsheets, or other systems to manipulate data and build visualizations.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented mission environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel and PowerPoint.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, GEOINT, or national security missions.
  • Experience supporting insider threat, risk scoring, anomaly detection, or similar security-focused analytics programs.
  • Experience with data quality analysis, data cleansing, data transformation, and data integration across multiple sources.
  • Experience with Tableau, Python, SQL, R, GIS tools, SharePoint, or other business intelligence and data visualization platforms.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in support of Federal, Defense, Intelligence Community, and national security missions.
  • Work may be performed in classified environments and requires compliance with applicable security, information handling, and customer site requirements.
  • Normal work hours are generally Monday through Friday during standard business hours, unless otherwise required by mission needs.
