Job Title: Database and Business Analytics Manager

Pay Range: $58,000-$62,000 

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Database and Business Analytics Manager at Zoo Knoxville is responsible for overseeing the use of Tessitura, the primary database management system, and ensuring its integration across all departments. This role emphasizes optimizing data processes, ensuring data integrity, and providing analytics that support the zoo's goals and strategic initiatives. Working collaboratively with multiple departments, the Manager will also guide best practices in database management, reporting, and data analysis. This position involves leading a cross-functional workgroup to streamline database operations and foster data-informed decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As a team member, exemplify Zoo Knoxville's Core Values through interactions with guests and fellow team members.

Database Management and Analytics:

  • Lead efforts in managing Tessitura, ensuring proper data integrity, and facilitating database maintenance, including duplicate records management and data extraction.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of data reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for departments such as Development, Marketing, Guest Experience, and Education.
  • Design and implement data hygiene practices, including regular updates such as NCOA updates, constituent codes, open plans, and system tables.
  • Build and maintain custom reports and ensure compatibility with Tessitura functionality.
  • Maintain timely updates to the Tessitura e-commerce site and coordinate with internal departments to ensure accurate information display.
  • Support Tessitura upgrades and integration with other software tools (e.g., WordFly, Google Analytics).
  • Administer ticketed event setup and related processes to support ongoing and special events at the zoo

Collaborative Workgroup Leadership:

  • Lead a workgroup composed of members from various departments to optimize the use of Tessitura, integrating database management best practices.
  • Assist internal stakeholders in pulling accurate and strategic lists, reports, and data extractions to support donor engagement, marketing initiatives, and zoo programming.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Finance, Development, Guest Experience, Education, and others to ensure cross-departmental data needs are met.

Training & Documentation:

  • Conduct training sessions for staff on Tessitura functions, ensuring they are well-versed in system usage, updates, and data management processes.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to Tessitura usage, policies, and procedures for effective internal support and knowledge sharing.
  • Develop team member(s) through coaching and mentorship, fostering expertise of Tessitura and its related processes.

System Integration & Innovation:

  • Work closely with IT to support Tessitura system integrations with other internal applications and ensure smooth operation of related hardware and software.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in database technologies, analytics tools, and Tessitura updates, implementing improvements as necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements through tools like PowerAutomate, streamlining data workflows across departments.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Management, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in database management, preferably with Tessitura or other similar CRM systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 products, particularly SharePoint
  • SQL proficiency is a plus
  • Proven ability to manage data integrity, build dashboards, and perform data extractions for multiple departmental needs.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a cross-functional environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a keen ability to translate complex data concepts into actionable insights.
  • Project management experience, particularly in leading cross-departmental initiatives and data projects, is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

As an employee of Zoo Knoxville, you must possess English communication skills as well as the ability to communicate using a 2-way radio, email and telephone.  The position hours vary depending on business needs and will require weekend and some holiday shifts. Depending on the specific tasks, this position will be required to work within close proximity of exotic and domestic animals and must be aware that there are dangers inherent in working under those conditions.
