JOB SUMMARY
The Business Analyst is responsible for calculating various elements of variable compensation for field and corporate personnel. The position is responsible for auditing and evaluating report data to ensure accuracy and consistency as well as responsibility for pay period and monthly variable compensation statement distribution to the field. The Business Analyst also executes any system testing required for new initiatives, improvements, or issue resolution. The Business Analyst is responsible for implementing and maintaining complex configurations of the Time & Labor and Payroll systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Variable Pay Calculations and System Configurations
  • Create and maintain payroll templates for commissions and bonus calculations using system generated reporting
  • Calculation commissions and bonuses timely and accurately on a bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Calculate and document any manual adjustments for variable compensation.
  • Produce timely and accurate variable compensation statements for the field.
  • Obtain and maintain proper approvals in accordance with company policies.
  • Calculation overtime recalculation for bonuses.
  • Maintain system configurations to Time & Labor, Scheduling and Payroll systems.
  • Research system issues and partner with vendors to execute adjustments or test fixes to resolve issues.
  • Document any manual adjustments or processes related to time keeping and payroll calculations. Execute and audit processes as needed.
  • Monitor company and regulatory policies and assess impact to system configurations.
  • Work with HR, Legal, etc. to ensure compliance with company and regulatory policies in system configurations.
  • Report, expedite, and maintain documentation related to system discrepancies, risks, or manual workarounds.

Special Projects
  • Identify opportunities to streamline existing processes and to eliminate redundant or non-value-added work.
  • Collaborate within Payroll and with other teams (e.g. HR, Accounting, etc.) to execute process improvements as identified.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for process improvements to ensure accuracy while maintaining efficiency in the calculation of variable compensation.
  • Initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance.
  • Execute system testing, which includes creating detailed system test plans, performing the tests, and documenting test results to support initiatives, improvements, or issue resolutions.
  • Proactively and timely communicate testing updates or deadline concerns to manager.
  • If required, train additional resources to aid with the testing process.

Customer and Accounting Support
  • Execute monthly system accrual calculations for the Accounting department.
  • Provide timely customer support to field and corporate personnel by responding to daily inquiries and researching questions sent to Payroll that the Technicians/Specialists cannot support due to required technical expertise.
  • Execute and document established Sarbanes-Oxley controls.
  • Identify opportunities for additional controls and work to bring controls to fruition.

Data Analysis and Administration
  • Identify data issues and inconsistencies and work with business partners to resolve
  • Ensure data accuracy and compliance within company policies and security procedures
  • Complete ad hoc reporting and analysis requests as needed with little to no supervision.
  • Review, analyze, and provide rigorous feedback regarding proposed changes to compensation plans.
  • Calculate various elements of variable compensation for field and corporate personnel, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory policies
  • Complete analysis requests from business partners with regard to compensation changes and proposals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (complex formulas, data analysis, pivot tables and macros).
  • Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Tableau) preferred.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Workday, ADP, UKG, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance requirements, and data accuracy controls.
  • Proven experience in business analysis, including requirements gathering, process mapping, and documentation (BRDs, user stories).
  • Ability to analyze complex data and identify discrepancies or process improvement opportunities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness in resolving issues.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision.

Minimum Educational Level/Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent professional experience.

Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications
  • 4+ years of work experience with increasing professional level responsibilities.
