Job description

PAY RATE: $16/hour
Under the direction of the Transportation Director, the Bus Monitor is responsible for maintaining a warm, healthy environment to promote the total growth and well-being of the children in the program. Following is a list of responsibilities:
  1. Serve as the primary person responsible for child safety on an assigned vehicle.
  2. Complete and confirm daily attendance counts and rosters.
  3. Assist children with street crossing, getting on and off the bus and door-to-door transfers.
  4. Ensure the safety of children on the vehicle by following all Y rules and best practices for managing youth.
  5. Provide pro-active supervision of children on the bus at all times.
  6. Serve as a mandated reporter for our transportation operations.
  7. Attend safety, in-services and other trainings and staff meetings.
  8. Follow and administer the Y Child Safety Code of Conduct.

This list of responsibilities is not meant to be all-inclusive and may be adjusted to meet the operational needs of the agency and the Learning Center Program.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with school-aged children.
  • Become certified in AED, CPR, and First Aid within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to mitigate conflict while still performing all essential duties.
  • Have a track record of safe practices and working with children.

While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to:
  • Sit, stand, or reach for extended periods of time;
  • Move around the work environment independently;
  • Communicate via computer, multi-line phone, and smart-phone; and,
  • Push, pull, or lift up to 25 pounds for short periods of time.

The noise level in the work place is usually moderate, but may vary based on a number of external factors.
