The City of Laguna Beach is excited to announce that we are now seeking motivated applicants for the position of Trolley Fueler Washer (Part-Time). This position reports to the Transit Supervisor or his/her designee. The Trolley Fuel Washer performs a variety of maintenance tasks for the Transit Division's Trolley Service including moping, sweeping, detailing, and pressure washing.
Schedule: Employees in this position must be available to work as scheduled on weekdays, weekends and select holidays (six-to-eight-hour shifts). Shifts are scheduled during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Monday through Sunday.
Examples of Duties
What you'll do:
  • Fuels, disinfects and washes interior/exterior trolleys and division vehicles.
  • Restock and update service-related materials.
  • Performs simple mechanical maintenance as needed.

Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:
Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in driving larger vehicles (eg. Trucks or Buses) is desirable. Basic knowledge of the use of common hand tools, and previous experience washing and detailing vehicles is also desirable.
License/Certificate Requirements: A valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

Application/Selection Process: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis, with the first review date on May 14, 2026. Applications will be screened carefully and selected candidates will be invited to undergo a department interview. The appointed hiring authority will further review the job-related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions. Candidates who pass the interview will undergo a practical assessment with the Trolleys.
Preplacement Process: A candidate selected for this position must successfully pass a live scan fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice.
Knowledge of: Common hand tools and equipment used in mechanical and maintenance work and related work hazards; safe practices and procedures; how to operate larger equipment.
Ability to: Perform manual labor using hand tools or equipment that may vary from small to large; clean and fuel various types of assigned equipment; drive trolleys and small vehicles around the facility; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; learn work methods, procedures, terminology and the operation and use of tools that are specific to work assigned; safely lift, move and/or carry moderately heavy objects of up to 50 pounds in weight; establish effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.

Benefits for Laguna Beach Hourly/Part-Time Employees
The basic pay ranges are composed of either five (5), seven (7) or eight (8) steps.
Overtime Pay: All employees shall be compensated at a rate of time and a half for all hours worked in excess of forty hours per work week.
Retirement: Eligible employees are enrolled into the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). This program requires an employee contribution of 3.75% of base pay. The City matches your contribution for total of 7.5%.
Sick Leave: Employees receive 40 hours of sick leave annually, provided each July.
