JOB TITLE: School Bus Dispatcher/Sub Bus Driver

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

JOB TYPE: Part-time, Hourly


Position Summary

The School Bus Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the daily transportation operations of school buses, including assigning bus routes, scheduling drivers, and communicating with drivers, parents, and school staff. The Dispatcher ensures that all transportation services are delivered in a timely and efficient manner, and that safety regulations are strictly adhered to. Must have CDL B with P and S endorsements. If not, you will be required to obtain one within 90 days of hire. This is a 12-month position.

Key Responsibilities

· Coordinate and assign bus routes to drivers

· Schedule bus driver shifts and monitor driver availability

· Communicate with drivers regarding route changes, delays, and other issues

· Maintain accurate records of bus routes, driver assignments, and daily operations

· Respond to inquiries from parents, school staff, and external stakeholders

· Monitor and track bus locations using GPS and other tracking systems

· Assist with driver training and ensure compliance with safety regulations

· Collaborate with transportation team to improve efficiency and effectiveness of transportation services

· Utilize the METS Drives platform as directed

· Represent METS in a professional and respectful manner

· Perform other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

· Previous experience in transportation dispatching or a related field

· Knowledge of transportation regulations and safety guidelines

· Strong communication and organizational skills

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and transportation management software

Preferred Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent

· CPR and first aid certification preferred

· Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a passenger endorsement preferred


Physical Requirements

· Ability to sit for extended periods

· Must pass a state and Federal Criminal Background check (fingerprint) as required by METS and the district.
