Job description

The Child Care Licensing Program at the California Department of Social Services is seeking analytical, motivated self-starters with strong written and verbal communication skills. If you enjoy working collaboratively to develop and implement effective policies, this position may be an excellent fit for you.
The Field Support & Training Bureau Chief oversees planning, prioritizing, and work delegation for the Field Support & Training Bureau to ensure efficient operations and achievement of Bureau goals. Other duties include providing leadership in policy interpretation and implementation, training, staff development, and resource updates, as well as managing statewide implementation of policies, procedural changes, regulations, and system improvements. The Bureau Chief drives process evaluation, identifies opportunities for innovation, and leads change management efforts through communication, training, and strategic planning.
Additionally, the Bureau Chief ensures consistent, high-quality customer service for internal and external partners by setting communication standards and overseeing accurate policy and regulatory guidance. The Bureau Chief collaborates closely with Regional Managers and the other Bureau Chiefs to produce clear, aligned program materials and comprehensive training that incorporates adult learning theory. As part of the management team, the Bureau Chief helps develop goals, allocate resources, support regulation development, and perform other duties necessary to advance departmental objectives.

Working Conditions
Use of a computer for several hours a day which involves sitting most of the time but may include walking or standing for brief periods. Attend meetings, workshops and training associated with job duties. Work hours and schedules may vary.
This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer's markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80.
This position may be eligible for Hybrid work. In-person attendance is required based on the operational needs of the position and in accordance with Executive Order N-22-25 the Statewide Hybrid Telework Policy, Government Code section 14200, and any applicable department telework requirements. The successful candidate must reside in California at the time of appointment. Proof of California residency may be required .
Please note: Regular commute is not compensable.
