Job description

Position & Office Overview

As Regional Manager of Facilities Services, you have strong leadership skills as well as a great eye for detail. Responsibilities

ECS is seeking a Regional Manager of Building Science + Infrastructure Services to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across Virginia. In this role, you will drive financial performance, support sustainable growth, and align business development, operations, and workforce planning. You will partner with department managers and regional teams to optimize resources, strengthen client relationships, and execute business objectives. This position requires strong leadership, financial acumen, and market awareness to effectively manage regional performance and foster a high-performing team environment.

Leadership and Operational Performance

  • Provide financial and operational leadership for your geographic region, ensuring sustainable growth, profitability, and disciplined execution. 
  • Full P&L management of the regional operation, including all departments, their managers, and staff, including budgeting, invoicing, and collections. This includes sales growth, backlog management, profitability goals, and staff productivity/utilization
  • Monitor marketing and business development strategies, including proposal generation and rates. 
  • Lead annual business planning, rolling forecasts, and performance benchmarking aligned with growth objectives
  • Seek project leads and business development opportunities and promote the ECS brand.
  • Build team-oriented relationships with the facilites, local office, regional marketing, and business development staff to provide support in seeking out business opportunities.

Operational and Workforce Planning

  • Partner with technical and operational leaders to align planning with project execution and resource needs.
  • Support hiring plans and growth pacing as headcount scales, balancing utilization, capacity, and financial performance.
  • Assist managers in evaluating complex scopes of work, associated risk, and resourcing needs prior to project commitment.
  • Monitor and support load leveling of staff and shared resources across departments.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and cost management without compromising quality or delivery
  • Evaluate market opportunities, trends, and successes in other regions and apply best management practices within your area where appropriate.
  • Support department managers with monitoring and reviewing current and projected workloads to determine if the overall staff level is appropriate. This review includes the number of staff, experience levels, and technical knowledge.
  • Participate in the recruitment of strategic personnel.
  • Train and lead employees to achieve business objectives.

Business Development and Client Management

  • Assist in the strategic direction and oversight of assigned regional marketing and business development personnel where appropriate.
  • Participate in regional trade associations, attend trade association conferences, and regional market segmentation groups to provide leadership and seek out project opportunities.
  • Facilitate the completion of Regional Proposals and Regional SOQ responses by assigned deadlines.
  • Partner with regional marketing and business development teams to support proposal strategy and pursuit evaluation.
  • Build collaborative relationships with BS+I leadership, local offices, and regional teams to support coordinated growth.

Staff Leadership & Development 

  • Manage multiple direct reports from various departments
  • Provide leadership and guidance to Department Managers, supporting accountability for financial, operational, and staffing outcomes.
  • Participate in the recruitment of strategic personnel in partnership with leadership and department managers.
  • Support the development of managers and staff by strengthening financial and operational understanding across the organization.
  • Promote teamwork and the company-wide resources available.

Qualifications

 Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture , Building Science, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 10-15 years of experience related to building envelopes, related engineering design or inspection, including prior experience in construction and/or third party inspection activities or similar operational management within the building science field.
  • Licensed or certified in at least one of the following preferred but not required:
    • Registered Architect (R.A.)
    • Professional Engineer (P.E.)
    • IIBEC certifications (RRC, RWC, REWC, RBEC, CBECxP)
    • University of Wisconsin–Madison certifications (BECxP, CxA+BE)

  • Knowledge of local marketing and business development skills
  • Excellent writing, communication, and computer skills with the ability to present financial and operational information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be self-motivated and responsible
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and build trust with technical, operational, and leadership teams Established local contacts and relationships in the region with REITs, banks, insurance companies, large developers and management firms, property managers, architects, engineers, and contractors; and the capability to bring those contacts to ECS
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and comfortable operating within a growing organization with evolving structure and processes.
  • Strong financial, operational, and business acumen with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
