Job Summary

Langan has an immediate opening for a Hazardous Building Materials Professional with 5+ years of experience specializing in asbestos, lead-based paint, PCB and indoor air quality consulting work to join its collaborative team New Haven, CT office.  As the successful candidate, you will have an enthusiastic, can-do attitude with experience in performing and leading hazardous building materials surveys and abatement monitoring, including but not limited to asbestos, lead, PCBs, universal wastes, and mold. Possession of a strong technical education, professional demeanor, and entrepreneurial mindset is essential.  The ideal candidate will also have the desire to help first hand with building a rapidly growing practice group.

Job Responsibilities
  • The primary responsibilities of the position will be:
    • Coordinate/execute the completion of hazardous/regulated building material inspections and abatement project monitoring;
    • Coordinate/execute IAQ and PCB assessments;
    • Develop scopes of work and prepare proposals for inspections, monitoring, and IAQ assignments;
    • Attend client/construction team meetings as needed;
    • Work periodic overtime and/or outside of normal business hours as needed to complete the project;
    • Coordinate with laboratories, subcontractors, project teams;
    • Prepare inspection/monitoring/IAQ reports;
    • Train and mentor junior HBM staff;
    • Report directly to the HBM Practice Lead in New England.
  • Secondary responsibilities may include:
    • Develop new client relationships;
    • Participate in business development activities and be part of building a rapidly growing practice group;
    • Cross-training in other Langan practice disciplines;
    • Coordination with staff and management in other disciplines;
    • Periodic travel to neighboring states (New England/NY) when necessary to support group workload.
  • Langan's baseline expectation is that you will work closely with senior management, and take advantage of the opportunities we provide to develop your professional skills, and grow your Langan career within the HBM field. 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor or Associates degree in Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Hygiene or  Environmental Science related field required;
  • Minimum of 5 years of related hazardous building materials survey and abatement/remediation monitoring experience (asbestos, lead-based paint, PCB and indoor air quality experience is essential);
  • Thorough understanding of Connecticut and Federal  (MA, NY and RI considered a plus) asbestos, lead, and PCB regulations/guidelines including: design protocols, survey requirements, abatement monitoring requirements and reporting;
  • Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • State of CT DPH Asbestos Inspector and Project Monitor
    • State of CT DPH Licensed Lead Inspector
    • Related licenses in other states (MA, NY, RI, etc) and additional CT licenses (Lead Risk Assessor, Asbestos Designer) are considered a plus
  • Ability to read and understand project specifications, drawings and plans, hazardous materials survey reports;
  • Experience performing surveys and project monitoring of environmental and building abatement projects relating to asbestos, lead based paint, PCBs  and other hazardous building materials;
  • Experience with proposal writing, abatement/remediation estimates, report writing, and specifications;
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office;
  • Reliable transportation to access job sites and a valid driver's license in good standing; flexibility and ability to work normal business hours as well as off hours;
  • Ability to multi-task with field and office work; and
  • Ability to work alone and in a team environment.
