Summary of Purpose
Oversees and supervises use of the College's physical education buildings, athletic facilities, grounds, and sports and/or athletic equipment. Manages student employees and leads planning for events. Incumbents must work flexible hours that include evenings and weekends during peak work periods, dependent on activities scheduled. This position is expected to work in a multi-cultural diverse working environment.
Typical Duties
This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:
  1. Assists with schedules and supervises physical education, recreational, internal and external activities.
  2. Inspects building, equipment, and grounds to insure safety to users and prevention of liability.
  3. Oversees student workers while on duty and assigns daily duties to said students.
  4. Supervises and assists in setting up equipment for athletic events, police and fire academies, recreational activities, PER classes, and any other events taking place in the H buildings.
  5. Completes any opening or closing procedures dependent on the time of day Manager is on duty.

Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Skill in both written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work with diverse students, staff, and external constituents
  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures
  • Acceptable driving record in compliance with College policy
  • Literacy in using computers and Microsoft Office software programs and other department relevant equipment
  • Current and valid CPR certification

Minimum Education and Experience
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associate's Degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience working or participating in physical education and/or athletics.
This position is not associated with any OCC benefits except for MPSERS (Michigan Public School Employees' Retirement System) with ORS (the Michigan Office of Retirement Services).
