Are you a passionate Fire Alarm CAD Designer looking for an opportunity to express your creativity? Building Electronic Controls, Inc. welcomes individuals who are eager to contribute their design skills and be part of a dynamic team. Our design team collaborates to create the fire alarm designs for the next generation of buildings to grace the skyline of greater Los Angeles.

Overview

The CAD Designer oversees the design of various commercial fire alarm construction project designs. They work very closely with Field Operations and Customers.

Essential Functions

As a Full-Time CAD Designer, you will play a key role in crafting accurate CAD format packages for our fire alarm plans. Here's a glimpse of your responsibilities:

  1. Design Coordination: Managing multiple projects from inception to completion, ensuring they align with project hours and different construction phases.
  2. Technical Oversight: Reviewing project scope, product specifications, and fire life safety code compliance for consistency with project specifications, AHJ requirements, and engineer/architect input.
  3. Detailed Layouts: Preparing comprehensive system layouts, including floor plans, Bill of Materials (BOM), sequences of operations, riser diagrams, panel layouts, and calculations.
  4. Revision Expertise: Updating plans based on field changes to create precise as-built drawings.
  5. Effective Communication: Maintaining clear and consistent communication with external customers and internal teams regarding design updates, timelines, and approvals.
  6. Document Presentation: Utilizing in-house printing resources to present your designs professionally.
  7. Special Projects: Taking on additional assignments as delegated by our Operations team.

Qualifications

Our ideal CAD Designer will possess:

  • Code Knowledge: Familiarity with NFPA 72 for Fire Life Safety Code.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD (5 years' experience; including use of current and recent releases) and Bluebeam is preferred.
  • Advanced Skills: Background in BIM/Revit is a plus.
  • Industry Experience: 3 years of fire alarm design experience (electrical design experience will be considered).
  • Construction Understanding: A background in construction is advantageous.
  • Blueprint Reading: Capability to interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans, layouts, and diagrams.
  • Time Management: Strong organizational skills to meet project timelines.
  • Positive Attitude: A professional demeanor and a positive outlook.
  • Expert Communicator: Able to handle all forms of communication (email, phone call, and verbal) with ease.
  • Skills Assessment: Provide a satisfactory score on the internal CAD skills assessment (To be completed at Glendora, CA Office upon invitation).
