SUMMARY
The Building Automation Specialist is responsible for the building automation systems of the buildings. Duties include monitoring, inspecting and maintaining automation and control systems according to established practices and processes. He or she is also responsible for system configuration changes, programming, and the development and implementation of system optimization initiatives.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Facility maintenance activities :

Service calls 

  • Respond to service requests for problems related to the automation and control system.
  • Contribute to improving tenant satisfaction by ensuring quality workmanship.
  • Support the operations team as needed in handling other types of service calls.

Preventive maintenance

  • Inspect and maintain building automation (hardware and software) or control systems, as well as energy management systems and equipment. 
  • Monitor the integrity of automation system equipment and software, including:
    • the graphical user interface and its ability to provide fast and accurate diagnostics, 
    • server backups and maintenance.
  • Oversee the implementation of the automation system's preventive maintenance program, and ensure the involvement of service providers where necessary.
  • Support the operations team as required in the performance of other types of preventive maintenance.

Corrective maintenance

  • As required, perform or coordinate with a third-party supplier troubleshooting and repairs to building automation (hardware and software) or control systems, as well as energy management system and equipment.
  • Establish recommendations for automation system modifications/improvements and implement once approved.
  • Support the operations team as needed in taking on other types of repairs as required.

Administrative activities related to facility maintenance:

  • Receive, implement, track, monitor and report on maintenance and repair work in the work order management system, including progress and resolution notes. 
  • Record resolution data in the Maintenance Management Services database.

Activities related to the follow-up of projects involving the building automation and control system:

  • Contribute to projects related to installations that may have an impact on automation and control systems.
  • Participate in commissioning activities relating to the automation systems of various ongoing projects.

Activities related to improving facility energy efficiency:

  • Monitor building automation system and inspect automation system interface and sequence of operations for optimization. 
  • Optimize building automation (hardware and software) or control systems, as well as energy management systems and equipment. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement energy efficiency measures when required.

Health and safety activities :

  • Support the team leader in the coordination and receipt of work permits required for various jobs.
  • Report any incidents/accidents observed in accordance with the various procedures in place;
  • Participate in various training and awareness-raising activities on occupational health and safety issues.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • College OR University Degree/Diploma/Certification in HVAC, Controls, and/or Building Operations is desirable.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in the field of designing, installing, programming, and/or maintenance of automated control/energy management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with computers, computer networks and internet protocols.
  • Familiar with integration concepts and platforms such as BACnet systems.
  • Operational experience in fault detection platforms considered an asset
  • Good knowledge of optimization and energy management strategy for BAS system.
  • Strong ability to adhere and to properly execute processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance
  • Current knowledge of fire, life, safety and building codes and standards and ability to research and apply related codes and standards, is desirable.
  • Possesses a strong environmental, health and safety mindset. Ability to perform work in a safe manner.
  • Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency.
  • Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification.
  • Mentoring skills required to support lower level technician's development.
  • Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must be available for on-call/standby and emergency callouts as they arise. Extended hours may be required.

This is a regular, full-time position with a wage range of $30.26 - $37.82 per hour. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate's competencies, including but not limited to experience, education and performance related to this role.
